Default J45 Tuners

So I decided I love my 2008 Gibson J45. It has that sound but I feel like the Grover tuners are out of place. So I picked up some Gotoh 3 on a plate vintage style tuners with the conversion bushings.

It maybe took 1hr to do. The hardest part was rebuffing the headstock after sanding out the old washer imprints from the grovers.

Anyway, anyone who’s been thinking about the upgrade, don’t be scared! It’s worth it!

And now for that pickguard location

Excellent choice! I went with the Gotoh replacement tuners on my J-45 and they’re great.

Thanks guys! Was hoping I’d inspire anyone sitting on the fence. I think the investment is under $100 and probably a wash after I sell the grovers

I’ve job, I’ve got a 2001 with the gold grovers and have thought about replacing. Can you attach a link to where you got your 3 on a plate, or at least the specific model #?

Thanks,
Jay

Nice upgrade. I feel the same way, although the stock tuners are really nice and work flawlessly. The aesthetics are wrong, though. Good job

Nice! Looks so much better with the "right" tuners!

Nice work. I did the same on my J-45 Standard, but went with Waverlys. And yes, a little work, but taking time to polish out the “raccoon” eyes is worth the effort.

Nice work, now it looks like a proper J45 should look.

I must be weird. In 60+ years of playing it has never once occurred to me to change out tuners because they looked "out of place".
