Watch the Stars
Guitar and vocal on a trad tune from the southeastern US.
This song was collected by folklorist-composer Ruth Crawford Seeger (stepmother of Pete and mother of Peggy, Mike, Barbara and Penny) in the Sea Islands. It's variously described as a play-party, children's, gospel or Christmas song. I learned it from Pentangle, but since I'm neither John Renbourn nor Jacqui McShee, my version is not much like theirs. Always liked that song, and like you, heard it first from Pentangle.* It's a folk song, it's in the manual that you can do it your way.
* I play bass too, and I have to continually prove I'm not Danny Thompson either.

Hi Dave,
First time I listened to this song, and I am so glad to have heard it from you! I love the way you play the guitar, and your vocals fit the song like a glove. Lovely execution, full of emotion and nice storytelling. Thanks for this recording. Rene |
