IF scammers ever learn to speak and write proper English we'll all be in trouble.

I've done a huge amount of business using Paypal, and not had any serious problems at all - at least none they didn't correct quickly. But just like banks (which also require a SS#) they are always looking for more business out of you, and there are scammers working on every level. So I don't care where you put your money - you gotta use some common sense. Even if its just under the mattress -

What really stupid is that we (the US) use a SS# as validation for anything at all - you have to give it out to open a bank account, an insurance account, get access to your cable TV account, or to prove citizenship to vote - yet, none of us have any way of validating any of it -

Default New Scamming Activity REMINDER

(Thread is a few years old, but bringing it back here as a PSA.)

I've had two recent fraudulent "requests" for large ($400-$500) payments on PayPal. The requests are not so poorly written as some are, and can look fairly authentic. Anyone who knows your PayPal e-mail can make such requests and they can be unsettling when you see them. However, PayPal does not simply send money when requests come in. If you do nothing it just sits there, or click "Cancel" and the request is invalidated and goes away. Just another reason/reminder to be selective about who gets your e-mail address.

A PSA for your PSA: don't click on any buttons or links in emails*, even if you think it's legit. Instead, sign in to your account the way your normally would (by typing in the site, or your bookmarks). This protects you from accidentally going to a site that will steal your info or load malware.

* One exception: if you are expecting an email from a certain site for something you initiated, like a password reset or verification of a new account.

my Gmail does a pretty good job of routing questionable email into the Spam folder.

Wait a mnute. What if you are costumer? A friend of mine is a costumer (wardrop supervisor) and her office and workshop are on the floor above my studio.

This isn't a gmail issue, it all happens within the PayPal system.

I've received a text everyday (and I mean EVERY DAY) for the past 3 weeks saying my Paypal account was limited due to suspicious activity and may be locked!

I was shocked (shocked, I tell you) until I remembered I didn't have a Paypal account and never have.

Yup. I spotted the misused apostrophe right away.

Update for those keeping score at home... I received my daily text notice that my (non-existent) PayPal account has once again been suspended awaiting my clicking on the provided link, which I'm sure is quite legitimate. That makes 7 consecutive days my account has been suspended. Seems like they are getting serious this time.

Funny, when I read the OP's post this came immediately to mind.
