Kerbie, I've never meant to offend anyone ( at least not on purpose )
But they don't feel right -simple stuff my cat could figure out ( she is pretty smart thou )- basically i don't respond to the stupid stuff anymore -but when i keep seeing it being repeated over and over -its like their a plant - like their fake or generated for some reason - I've learned allot from this forum and i have allot of respect for the folks here -but some of the stuff is too stupid to be real . Another fact is that many of these people ( if these are from people ) never post again -- nor do they add or respond to their own post that they started .

Because if all people do is search, you have a dead forum.

My favorite posts are when someone with a very low post count suddenly starts a thread about _____ music store or _____ hand built guitars and then one or two other members with equally low post counts and join dates very close to the OP chime in about how the OP is correct or how they "know" the owner and he/she is a great shop owner/guitar builder, etc etc.

Plus from time to time I wonder how many members have multiple sign in names using different email addresses and phony aliases just to tag team about products they represent/sell, but don't disclose themselves as merchants.

I've been here a while and seen some funny stuff. Like the time someone joined and professed they were a 10 year old kid..... Yeah right.

Easy, don't play any songs with a Bm in them.

Glad this helped you.

Wondering if this isnt a plant to drive up interest - and the silly thing is
why do we bother with some of these very stupid questions .
( no this post isnt one of those )
Well as a noob, I'll throw this out.

I've made some comments and aside from email notifications (which I don't use) is there any in-forum notification system for subscribed threads?
Maybe I'm not so bright, but I cannot find any.

If others are having the same problem, perhaps that could be one part of it?

Click on "User CP" at the upper left of your screen. It will show list your subscribed threads. You can "un-subscribe" a thread as well here.

I know for a fact that what you conjectured in your last paragraph has happened.

People are looking for a discussion as much as an answer. My feeling is that if one finds this bothersome, then ignore these threads. It’s a community, not a reference.

Yes some questions border on "How do I know if I like a guitar?"

I have to wonder at some of these. Many may be honest questions.

I remember when I first bought Pro Tools back in 2002. I jumped into a Pro Tools user forum and got blasted several times by the old timers for not using the search function for research vs. asking what to me were pertinent questions, but to them were very basic questions.

I'd wince, and then go search the forum.

Tony
Being a bit older when I started playing 10 yrs back, I was not at all computer savvy. I had zero “forum” experience. I'd be googling to get some info and that led me to a forum (Mandolin Cafe, Ukulele Underground, and here). I’d sign up and start exploring. Not having a clue, I’d accidentally post to an ancient thread.

In my view, people on this forum are (too) nice. I frequent a few other forums, and there, if you ask a question that clearly shows you didn't bother to even do the most basic search, you'll get flamed. And guess what? People think before they post, and there's much less repetitive clutter.
