Default NGD - Emerald X20 Custom Royal Ebony

I've spent most of the day enjoying my new Emerald custom guitar which found its way through snowy Colorado to me on the last day of the year and arrived more or less in tune - from Ireland. Such is the case with modern carbon fiber guitars. I didn't even let the guitar acclimate before throwing open the case to behold this gorgeous Emerald X20 Custom. This beautiful guitar is the work of Alister Hay and crew in Donegal Ireland building some of the best carbon fiber acoustics in the world. This particular guitar has a Royal Ebony veneer over top of the newer design of their X20 model. I am impressed with how Emerald has dialed-in the sound on these carbon fiber guitars so that they can truly compete tone-wise and volume-wise with their wood counterparts. Carbon fiber of course offers many advantages when it comes to durability and stability of the instrument. Their guitars are lightweight and boast truly gorgeous lines that are the envy of wood builders. Deluxe hardware including gold Schertler tuners and an L.R. Baggs anthem pickup system rounds out the package. This particular guitar has a custom slotted headstock that is hand-carved from a large block of carbon fiber and steps up the look of the guitar along with the translucent amber finish. The guitar came in a quality Hiscox Lite Flite case but I believe there is a gig bag available too. Fit and finish on this guitar is perfect and there was even a cool handmade mug included in the box. Cheers everyone!

Emerald excels at their custom shop and offers these guitars with custom airbrushed graphics, fan frets and custom scale lengths, exotic veneers, translucent colors, nylon-string versions, and custom pickup packages that include electric guitar humbuckers mounted at the neck position to blend with the piezo pickup, etc. I am amazed at the diversity and number of really unique custom guitars that Emerald creates every week.

That’s a beautiful guitar, congratulations.
I love that slotted headstock most of all.
How’s the pure acoustic tone stand up to your fine wood guitars?

I got an X20 in 2013 because I wanted a tough guitar for rougher conditions like camping and traveling. It's now my number one acoustic and the 'nicer ones' stay mostly in their cases or I have let go.

Beautiful guitar JR. May you have many years' joy from it.

Wow.

And I've never played a CF guitar. Gotta get with it!

To all, may the new year bring you -- at the least -- contentment. Maybe even a couple of new chords.

Congrats, JR. What a way to close out the year.
My X20 and custom X20-12 have become my daily players, while almost all the others (carbon fiber and wood) languish. If those two were all I could have for the rest of my days, I'd be OK. And my wife just loves her X7 bubinga woody - it's mama bear sized, and oh so pretty.
