One thing that has always bothered me is the situation Don Felder was in with the Eagles. Was he a band member or a hired gun? I struggle mightily with thinking that any studio musician, no matter how great, could have added what Felder did to those songs. We will never know, but I really think even though the guy made tons of money, he was totally taken for granted. Something was definitely rotten in Denmark.

From his and his lawyer's position, Don Felder was the last fully vested member of Eagles, Ltd., way back in '74. He was appointed the financial officer of the corporation at that time. When they got back together, he began requesting financial reports. Apparently Fry, Henley, and manager Irv Azoff thought they could reorganize the business without Felder. Thereby hung the tail.

I may be biased and jaded but I really have a difficult time with Messers Henley and Frey outside of the music. I suppose these dynamics are more the norm than I would like to think. Musically, Felder deserves huge recognition. If anybody has a clip or a video of him being praised by the other two, I would love to see it.
Then, I guess that really doesn't happen with any band does it.

To this day, Joe Walsh (hired gun) speaks highly of Don Felder. He talks about getting into the band and realizing that there were all these feuds between the various members and he had to become "Switzerland," neutral, to survive. You never know who to trust in these things but through the quiet hints from the other members you get a feel for the thing. Glen proudly had a t-shirt made up that said, "That's 'MISTER S.O.B.' to you" to wear to sound check. Speaks volumes.

Well, if someone really wants to know the difference down here at faux-musician level, do this: Take your favorite "go-to" showoff song that you wow the crowds with at song circles and jam sessions, fire up Garage Band and record three minutes of that song to post in the AGF Show and Tell section for all the world to listen.

Depending on your personal quality control standards and talent level, you could be at your computer console for quite awhile trying to get it right!

"Mediocre at best." Alrighty then.
Sometimes you just have to let it all go by.

Well, I'm a minimalist, so I gave it all I thought it deserved...
