Bourgeois Aged Tone D - Panama Red
IMG_1860.jpg
https://midwoodguitarstudio.com/bour...9-ca05fff37288 This guitar is an ancient temple of tone! It epitomizes natural reverb. Must be this super rare Panamanian Rosewood our friends at Bourgeois kept gushing about. When we get such an enthusiastic report straight from the source, we pay attention. After deciding on an Aged dreadnought design, we put in our order and patiently awaited its completion. Turns out the guitar exceeded our expectations. It’s a dark, lively tone. Lots of shifting around in the shadows. To my ear it sounds like a cross between Brazilian and Madagascar rosewood. It’s dramatic and spontaneous, but full and bass-heavy. It’s a sonic auteur, as well-prepared for the tender moments as it it for the fight scenes. The grain on the Panama is unreal. It’s straight, but bold. It looks like the kind of Brazilian you’d see on a pre-war D-45 when there were plenty of options to choose from. It’s reddish hue calls to mind Madagascar or Cocobolo, though. All the framing details are perfectly in place, too. The multi-color herringbone purfling is an especially nice touch. This is both one of the most iconic and unique dreadnoughts that you’ll ever encounter. It takes a classic recipe and makes substations based on the characteristics that made the original ingredients great. The torrefaction, the grain structure, the hide glue, the voicing of the braces; all of these things contribute to the strikingly old-yet-new tone of this guitar. Playing it is a beautiful experience. *** Our Aged Tone models blend vintage appearance, a new vintage-style finish, Dana’s exclusive approach to voicing, and a unique method of tonewood curing.
