Default Painting sold today for $400M US.

A Leonardo da Vinci painting sold today at a NY auction for $400M, $450M when the auction house premium is included. Painting is called Salvator Mundi.

I wonder if one of us AGF'ers picked it up? Who's sold a bunch of guitars recently to raise extra cash?

My sister is the curator of a major art museum. Several years ago, they bought an expensive painting in Italy and sent someone over on a chartered flight to bring it back. Plane arrived, no painting. The guy left the crated painting on the tarmac in Italy.

I made a phone bid.
If you listen carefully you can still hear them laughing.

Dang I miscalculated the time and missed the cutoff. Oh well I'm going for the Pope's Lamborghini. Nice! Less expensive.

Who, or what Corporation has 450 M to blow on any painting? It is just total profligacy.... What's more, I heard it was sold for $59 by someone who thought it was just a copy... I'll bet whoever made that deal thinks he / she really got skun.... HawHawHaw!

Maybe if we all pooled our funds we could afford it.

I remember reading about a guy who had just sold a Rembrandt (I think) for 85 million. He became very excited, gesticulating wildly as he talked to the new owner and stuck his elbow right though it!

How long did the guy end up standing in the unemployment line?

Fine art in general...is a great investment.
One of 20 known (500 year old) Leonardo Da Vinci paintings.
It was recently discovered and apparently the owner has become Powerball rich.

I have a bunch of self-brushed paintings. The only one that I ever sold was for $20 at a garage sale. Wonder if it has decomposed in some landfill or if it now has given that owner 15 years of appreciation to $50 or $60?

When I read your response, I read it like this in my head:

"One MILLION Baby Taylors!" [quick zoom in]
