Default Music Camp

Last year I went to the California Coast Music Camp for the first time. It is an acoustic music camp for all instruments and vocalists as well, not strictly guitar. There were more classes than I had time to take! I had to make some tough choices, but got a lot out of those I selected. Also the usual jams, open mics, concerts, etc. I’ve already signed up for this year. Anyone here have plans to attend this, or any other music camp? I really encourage anyone who has the time and/or money to do so. There is so much to be gained from a week of full immersion music playing. For anyone on the west coast ( or who doesn’t mind traveling, I highly recommend CCMC, but I know there are many other good ones as well.

I have gone to a number of great music, guitar and songwriting camps over the years. This spring, I am heading to the Yosemite Songwriting Camp. Mary Gauthier and Keith Greeninger will be teaching. Should be a blast.

Best,
Jayne

I saw that one as well, but can’t do both this year. I’m sure it will be awesome.

I've thought about going to Steve Earle's Copperhead Camp one of these years. He does it every year somewhere in upstate New York (I think) Looks like a blast.

For those of us east of the Mississippi, I have had wonderful experiences at two camps in the last few years:

Fur Peace Ranch, Pomeroy, OH: https://www.furpeaceranch.com/

My instructor was Toby Walker. I can't say enough about Toby's excellent teaching style and the fellowship we all shared at the camp. The other instructors that weekend were Bryan Sutton (flatpicking and bluegrass) and Spencer Bohren (songwriting and lap steel guitar). It's expensive, and the accommodations are spartan, but the food was great.

Midwest Banjo Camp, Olivet, MI: http://midwestbanjocamp.com/

Yes, it's focused on banjos, but there were great lessons on both flatpicking and fingerstyle guitar when I went. You can stay on campus (bring your own bedding, and be prepared for dorm-style accommodations) or at inexpensive hotels nearby. Nightly staff concerts are a highlight.

Due to financial constraints, I won't be able to attend a camp this year, but I highly recommend the experience.

I'm with Woody Mann at Fur Peace Ranch in May. It will be my 8th year in a row there.

Fur Peace Ranch should be on every acoustic player's bucket list.

i have been to Swannanoa Gathering three times.

This year I am going to Camp Cripple Creek for the second time,

It is held at a great resort near Woodstock. Not as much playing as Swananny but

loads of fun.

Not a camp per say but I'm attending a two-day workshop in Montreal in early July with Antoine Dufour, Erik Mongrain, Justin St-Pierre and Kevuan.

Which is exactly when I'll be able to afford it....when I'm dead and the life insurance pays.

I have attended Fur Peace Ranch 3 times the past 12 years. They run a tight outfit.

Anyone attend the Puget Sound Guitar workshop?

It's about a 3 hour drive form my place so I would be interested to have anyone's feedback.

Gabe
