In other news, today I started a new guitar, this one is for Rob Pierce, who is no stranger here in the forum. It will be an L00 inspired piece, with Guhl German spruce for the top and Pernambuco for the back and sides. It will have a side port and my JB/2, a subtle 1/4" MultiScale.

Thanks, JaJo. This material is the closest I've had to what I think contemporary tastes would like P to look like. Like many woods, P comes in a variety of characters.

Here are the plates cut to their rough template:

There is some distinct purple near the center, but it won't last most likely:

Hi Bruce - you are no doubt back in the swing of things. I hope Rob likes his Sexauer Pernambuco as much as I like mine. I believe I also got a Guhl German top (?) and, if not, it was some German top at any rate. The top threw off some crazy sounds when you tapped it that even I could hear. Mine is certainly more “Orange” and it is beautiful to me but to each their own. Hard to get ones hands on pernambuco guitars but it , for me, is worth the search. I find it forgiving generally but if played with attention to technique it will bring something special.

That is a stunning set of Pernambuco...

This guitar's specifications sounds similar to the guitar that you built for me 5+ years ago (L00, Martin Guhl German Spruce top / Pernambuco B&S, JB/2 1/4" multi-scale, 13-frets to the body). I believe that mine was your first L00 and this is now the 10th. I hope Rob loves his as much as I love mine...

These photos are from when Bruce first made it and the Pernambuco has taken on a bit darker brick-like hues to its color as it has oxidized over the years.

Good morning Bruce, got home very late last night from Super Bowl weekend with my son Robby. It was a very disappointing loss for us 49er fans but we had an absolute blast. Your timing in starting my build is perfect for cheering me up and helping me move on to one of my other passions; incredible hand built guitars.

Absolutely love the woods and can't wait to see you work your magic with them. I'm pretty darn excited to say the least and I'm looking forward to more of your posts and photos.

Jim, I agree completely with your comments. I've played for almost 50 years and played a pernambuco guitar about 6 months ago that convinced me that I had to have one. Bruce is such an incredible builder and has to my knowledge built more pernambuco guitars than anyone on the planet. I'm pretty darn confident that I'm going to love it.

Steve: I will bring the Penngrove if it survives my rough handling that long.

Yesterday I spent hours searching my shop for scraps of Dalbergia camatillo (if that's what it is) to trim Rob's guitar with, which is what he's requested. Looks like I can do binding backstrip and bridge, but possibly not the head plates. This is the material I used to trim several other P guitars I've made, and they are a wonderful compliment to each other
