Bought a mandolin

On April 14th I went to a guitar show in Danville Indiana. As I'm leaving my wife says "Don't buy any guitars". I say "Not planning to".

While I'm at one booth I inquire about an inexpensive electric. The guy says I'll give you a good deal. I just look at him. He throws out a number that was OK. I say no. Then he throws in a gig bag no charge. I say no. He points out that is autographed by John Rich of Big and Rich.

I then tell him my wife said no guitars. But she didn't say anything about a mandolin. He says I have one.

So, who has a good video series or any book recommendations. I need to learn to play this instrument.

It is an A style Dean that followed me home.

My wife said, "I should have said don't buy anything".

The second best advice I can give you is find a local group of people to play with. It really helped me when I started 10 years ago.

Thanks for the info.

Found some lessons on YouTube that were helpful. Can't remember who it was but should be able to find them again.

I can now play the C, G, and D chords. Even add in a bass note. That will cover a bunch of Bluegrass.

I am a beginner on mandolin... I got two of them in the last year and I love the instrument. I got a chord chart, and I used YouTube to find songs to learn that I liked. For example Springsteen’s Atlantic City has a Leon Helm version with mandolin.

Good luck. My professor was a professional mandolin player. Nice sounding instrument.

Mandolin is such a fun instrument. The tuning makes it relatively easy to learn the basics.

There are free lessons available, the previously mentioned forum (if you search "mandolin lessons") many available will show up. Enjoy! Mandolins are addictive!
