Default thesoundbox new soundfile

Hi folks,

the years are passing by and I can't remember how many times I thought, that this will be the last custombuild, but this time I suppose it should be the last build, but the first build-thread.
There are some reasons for this thread but the most important is that I expect a very strong and powerful voice and that I'm involved in the inlay- and soundport-design.
But the story from the beginning:
About two years ago I found an interesting post on our european acoustic forum about a young luthier in Lüneburg, Germany. Guitars with wonderful design, impressing woods and a well organized homepage. So catched by my eyes especially by No. 50, I decided on the one hand to have an impression of the voice and on the other hand to order No. 100. (You might remember the last order is allowed to have a long time of pleasant anticipation.)
I gave Thomas Thämlitz, ( http://www.holzblut.de , for these who are interested) the luthier a visit and was able to play a pretty time on different sizes of guitars and have honestly to say that my old ears were very happy about such powerful voices. So we confirmed that build No. 100 and I began searching a nice tonewood for this one.
Therefore I'm always looking for new kind of tonewood I found an "indian ebony" offered by an english distributor of fine tonewoods and I ordered it, well knowing that neither he nor I knew what it was about this wood.
I add a pic hoping that someone in this wonderful forum could thin out the fog about this wood.

I forgot to say that meanwhile after about two years, Thomas and I decided with the knowledge of an emission of about 12 guitars a year we will need more than 2 further years and that even pleasant anticipation could last too long. So I hope No. 77 will begin in some weeks.

all the best

Looks like a fun build! Nice ebony back and sides. Calling it Indian ebony would suggest that it is Ceylon ebony but its stripey appearence looks much more like Macassar ebony. I've built with Macassar and like it a lot. Very heavy, but capable of a deep reverberant voice. I will look forward to seeing how this build goes!

Default the soundbox, inlay

Hi folks,

sometimes I also thought, it could be a macassar, so perhaps you are right Glenn, thank you for your assessment.
Today I want to talk about the name of the thread, which has to do with the inlay.
I saw on the long list of Thomas guitars, that he likes to create inlays with different woods and so I tried to live my enthusiasm for design and inlays and was looking for a topic for this special inlay.
This theme was "soundbox".
I wanted to bring this appellation for the body of a guitar to live with an illusionistic, perspectively kind of inlay on the soundboard near the fretboard.
I hope the following sketch will transfer my intention and I'm really looking forward to the realization made by Thomas, because there still exist different imaginations.

with my best wishes for a restful weekend

Default thesoundbox soundport

hi folks,
the next step to the wonderful "holzblut" Jumbo.
Last year on the holy grail guitar show in Berlin I came aware of two guitars with a soundport in the upper area of the lower bout. Therefore that I had an injury on my left ear some years ago I remarked this as a wonderful appreciation to my right ear and so I thought about a solution with two soundports, one at the lower part of the upper bout and one at the upper part of the lower bout and here it is.

like always I hope you could enjoy it.
Still looking forward to the first step of realization of this build.
all the best

Default the soudbox digital

Hi folks,
things are proceeding. Now we have the digital drawing of the soundboxinlay

and have decided that these could become the illusion, we want to create.
The woods for the inlays will be maple, a yellow cedar, a red padouk and a black ebony. I hope I will be able to present the wood choice next january und remain with my best wishes for a holy christmas and a happy new year.

Hi folks,
it's so amazing to present the first pic of
that breathtaking inlaywork of Thomas
with the real soundhole. unsanded.
I'm honestly looking forward to the point
when the fretboard is ready.
all the best

Hi folks,
things are in progress. So I'm happy
to present the slotted headstock with Thomas' brandsign,
veneered with a wonderful piece of macassar, fitting to
to the fretboard.
Same procedure as every fret,
hoping you enjoy it.
All the best

Default unknown adventure

Hi folks,
new adventures sometimes offer some surprise. So Thomas made the experience that the real nice looking of flat sawn sides could cause some trouble by bending.

He usually uses only a hot tube for bending but the result were wonderful sides which decided to have their own forming after about 12 hours with a lot of buckles in all directions. So he bended in forms, but the result was the same. Only after the use of a added heating-pad in the revised form the result were perfect bended sides of a unbelievable hard tonewood with no name looking similar to macassar and bought as a Indian ebony.

I hope my english could describe that elaborated procedure.

Default next step

Hi folks,

the sides are bended and the soundbox starts to get a shape.
I'm happy to present the box without the back and a soundhole, looking strange from inside without knowing about the soundboard-inlay.

like always, hope you enjoy it

all the best

Default soundbox

Hi folks,

it seems that the box is going to be closed. The soundboardlining is prepared and the bracing finished.
The back is not bookmatched, but to me it's a nice equivalence to the asymmetrical soundhole.

like always hoping you enjoy it

all the best
