Default Fishman SA220 - recording

Hi,

I have a Fishman SA220 amp and wanted to take the output and record it on a computer. I tried the following configuration however I most got static:

SA220 (mixed DI out) ----- (mic xlr input) m-audio DI -----Computer

Can someone please suggest how I can record the output of SA220 onto a computer?

Thank you.

What do you mean by 'm-audio DI'? What is the actual audio interface you are using? You should be going into a line-in input on it.

The DI has a MIC and guitar input, similar to what you see in this photo:

I plugged the Mixed DI (post) out of the SA220 to the MIC input. Here is what the back of SA220:

Thank you.

Just a thought but wouldn't it be easier to mic the amp. Something like an Audio-Technica 2020 would do the job.

What you did should have worked. When you say you got 'static'? That sounds like a bad cable problem (or bad input or output jack). If you were clipping the M Audio input, you would get bad distorted sound, not static.

I don't have a proper recording room so I was thinking micing the amp would induce some echo?

I tested the cable as follows, which I think proves the cable is ok?

Amp mixed DI out ---- M-audio mic in ---> Static/bad sound
Microphone ------------ M-audio mic in ---> No static and sound was fine

I will try to post a video of the setup and the sound.

Thank you.

What you are doing should work unless the DI output is faulty.

You are not turning on phantom power are you because that's only for condenser mics?

I am almost thinking in the same line - that may be DI output is faulty. Hopefully soon I will head to a guitar center and try it out with their amp and my DI to make sure that the amp DI out is okay.

And correct - I don't have the phantom power on.
