Default Microsoft Access Database question

If anyone here has any experience with MS Access database...

I'm trying to find out for someone how to duplicate an entire Access database.

They told me that they just did a copy/paste of the database file (presumably right-click > copy...right-click > paste in Windows File Explorer), and they can't open the new copy of the database file. I think they also said the new database file is on a different machine, but I'm not sure.

I told them that Access probably keep low-level information about the database in the database file, so it would become invalid if you copied it, but I've no idea if this is really the case, as I have never used Access.

So of course the first thing I did to try to help was to google "how to copy an access database", and it looks like you might be able to do something like a "Save database as...", but I'm not sure if that saves the entire database so that it can be moved to another file system or machine.

Can anyone help me further with this?

I don't have access to Access, so I can't try anything out, otherwise I would just go ahead and play around with it until I got it to work.

Thanks!

I just copied (not moved) the mdb file from one location to another and both open fine using the old version we have from Office 2007.

Copying from one computer to another might be a problem with user permissions.

Donít know about any other versions of Office.

Thinking that Access need to be installed on the server/laptop where the copied DB file is located. The DB can also be imported into Excel.

Thank you both for your help.

This actually ended up being a network drive mapping problem.

Thanks again.
