Default FYI - 2022 Newport Folk Festival was this Weekend and YouTube is Abuzz

The 2022 Newport Folk Festival was held this last weekend and lots of videos are showing up on YouTube. Of note are a bunch of videos featuring Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon playing solo and also accompanying many contemporary artists, or vice versa.

Although it's upsetting to see a very frail Joni Mitchell at age 78, it wonderfully exemplifies the festival's tradition of honoring the musical veterans and passing the torch to the next generation. And of course, her mettle in coping with numerous health issues has amazed many. Brava to her.

Paul Simon looks great - 80 years old now. He used to coach my nephew's baseball team and I had wished so much that my sister-in-law would invite me to meet him. But she finally admitted to me, "Rick, do you know how weird it is that Paul Simon is your son's baseball coach? I have problems just approaching him."

Here are just four of many videos. They are multiplying like rabbits this morning.

Rick

So great to see these, Rick!!! Honoring the towering giants has been so wonderful to see and hear as the festival continues this tradition. Listened to these for the last hour.....remarkable, memorable and certainly historic as these legends reach their final years.
Working on the water just a mile from Ft. Adams this weekend, got hear hear a bunch of music (if the wind blows from the south!!) and hear festival stories from those who returned from the event.
My own memories always at hand from attending over many years, including the "night Dylan went electric", meeting Richie Havens, seeing PP&M, Seeger, and many others.
What a time honored tradition which keeps chugging along!!

Thanks again!

The "Joni Jam" stuff, where frail as she may be, there are moments of Joni being Joni Mitchell should remind all of us to take nothing for granted in life. I didn't expect we'd see her on stage (even via Youtube audience videos) again.

There's a video I saw early this morning where she just plays for a minute or so more or less solo on a Parker Fly solidbody and it's that Joni Mitchell being Joni Mitchell thing.

Been watching all day. Glad to see her on stage again. A special treat for sure.

Thank you for all this stuff, Rick! I'm sorry to see all these icons growing old, but I'm glad they are still sticking their necks out. I have listened to so much Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell music over the years. It's a real tribute to their fans that they are willing to come out in public again and make their music.
