Default Liggett Guitars FS1 cutaway (KOA Content)

After a year of building mostly electrics, and doing freelance inlay work for other luthiers, I'm excited to finally be beginning a new batch of acoustics.

I’m currently developing my new acoustic model, the FS1 (FS= fingerstyle). Instead of building an OM, or another existing model, I wanted to build a model from scratch, built for the job intended: Fingerstyle playing in low tunings. This will be a multiscale instrument with a subtle fan of 26”-25.4”. I’m aiming to accentuate optimal tension for open D and C tunings, without extremely heavy strings. The body has a pinched waist, a wide lower bout, and asymmetric sides. For the first FS1, I am going all out with a master grade set of Koa from my friends at koatonewood.com, an Italian spruce soundboard from Bachmann Tonewoods and a cutaway. The body shape is a little wild, so I’m keeping the rosette (or lack thereof) very minimalist.

I'll add more build shots as things progress. Cheers!

Ben

Very cool--love the asymmetry, the concept, and the woods!

Nice to see the grain on the fingerboards. It adds character.
