Default Update from Burton

From Burton:

"This stage is the most crucial, in my opinion- thicknessing the top before starting the bracing. I sand a bit and then fine tune with my scraper. The plates are not uniform but taper, with the thickest areas being the upper bout and the edges. The thinnest sections are right in the middle, by the bridge and just behind. I used to do the opposite but much prefer it this way.

I am always taking notes and recording the Chladni shapes. The shapes of this soundboard are extremely similar to the Braz CLM you owned for a while but this plate weighs 30 grams less. A big difference! That Hampton Bros. top is really nice

Braces are next and then the linings will get chopped up from their full side lam and installed. It could be looking like a real guitar pretty soon!

Default Post #5000!

I wanted this or some variation to be my 5000th post. This forum has given me so much joy and friendship. Thank you for a great seven years, and I hope to have many more!

The cleanness of the work is always so clear for a LeGeyt. Great photos!

Looking good! Everything is so clean and precise...

Just curious--is there an additional cross-grain piece below the bridge on the top?

I saw that too. Honestly I don't know. I'll have to ask the boss.

Edit to add: You are correct. "There is a large (but thin) spruce plate in place with the grain running at a slight angle to the top grain. It's there to help spread the load at the back of the bridge and not add much weight. I've been using it for years and it works great. I got the idea from reading Frank Ford, and I think Bruce Petros does something similar."

Default Getting Close! :)

As you can tell, Burton is a real stickler for detail. The spiderwebbing on the fretboard and faceplate line up with the bridge.

If that's not nerdy enough for you, the color shift on the rosette and sound hole binding match with the color shift on the outer binding. That's harder to see in these photos.

Thumbs up LeGeyt

Congrats Matthew, on both the extraordinary guitar and your 5,000th post! This was only my 890th post, so I have a long way to go. However, like you, I feel that the AGF has given me a lot. I look forward to checking this forum every day, and I have met some great people through this forum, several of whom have become friends.

Love the fingerboard and the matching headstock front veneer.

I can't wait to see the completed guitar.
