Default A 'downsized' CF is back in the stable - NGD - Rainsong H-OM1000

A little over a year ago, I purchased my first CF guitar (used Rainsong H-WS1000) from a member here. It far surpassed my expectations of tone and playability. Unfortunately, the more I play (and older I get) I find myself preferring smaller sized guitars. The WS fell into this category and so I traded it for another guitar (one made of wood ).

After a couple months of missing my Rainsong, I called Ted from LA Guitar Sales and started asking questions about the OM size and the differences amongst the C-CH-H-CO versions. Three phone calls later, I decided to sell my Taylor T5 and get a CF guitar back in the stable.

I am absolutely ecstatic with my decision. Although the OM lacks a little depth that the WS size brings to the table, the overall sound is astonishingly balanced. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and cannot get over how much the size has changed my playing time. It is nothing for me to sit for a few hours without any soreness. My fingers give out before my arm or shoulder does. I have drank the CF kool-aid and will NEVER be without one!

Thank you Ted and all my fellow CF owners. I've read countless threads in this section and am grateful for the knowledge and stories that everyone shares.

The proof...

Default How to Write Good

I offer this advice from the New York Times:

HOW TO WRITE GOOD…Important but often forgotten rules of English

Avoid alliteration, always. [almost, anyway]

Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

Avoid cliches like the plague.

It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.

Contractions aren't necessary.

Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.

Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly
superfluous.

Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.

Who needs rhetorical questions?

Nice looking Rainsong! I really like the unidirectional weave...so much so that my X20 Custom on order will have it...what Emerald calls “vertically aligned”, which they did on the June 2017 select series models.

I have two Rainsongs, an OM body and a WS body, and the OM is far and away the more comfortable model to play. The shallower depth and slightly smaller silhouette make it a joy to hold for a long time. The WS definitely has more power and body, but I find the tone of the OM to be a really great balance, especially for fingerpicking.

I absolutely love my RainSong Concert OM.

That's a gorgeous stand. Do you mind if I ask where it's from?

Thanks everyone. The more I play it, the more I am pleased with my decision. The WS is an awesome guitar, but just not for me anymore. The OM "feels" smaller than it is, yet can really put out the tone.

Please post pictures when you get it! That will be an awesome looking guitar. I LOVE Rainsongs but I have to say that every time I see an Emerald post, I think "someday I'm gonna get one of those ........"

Thanks! I bought it from my local shop, Tobias Music in Downer's Grove, IL. They are also a sponsor here on the AGF. They come in several different woods, too.

It's like a wooden pedestal for CF.

Congrats on your CF acquisition VJP5!

I would like to clear up some of the muddiness on this topic of Rainsong tops though. The H-OM1000 is not a unidirectional top (I did extensive research on RainSong and their various lines before purchasing a Shorty).

The reason it is important to understand the differences is because the top (other than body size) effects tone more than anything else. The "unidirectional" feature is exclusive to the Concert, Concert Hybrid, the Petteways, the Shorty, and some Parlor models.

Early buyers of those lines were paying premium dollars for the unidirectional top (before RS introduced the Concert Hybrids). The unidirectional top is supposed to respond much like spruce- bright and punchy. They are also full carbon (like the Classic series).

Hope that helps!
