Default "Kling On" on an emerald

no not star trek...

https://www.stringsbymail.com/kling-...lear-1315.html

I used this on my composite acoustic 5 years ago (but not taken them off, afraid of what is has done to my finish.)

has anyone else used this on a emerald?

I have that clear cling-on pick guard stuff that I've used on wood guitars - never felt the need for it on my carbon fiber guitars.

I use metal finger picks. I can gouge out a divot out finish.

I finger pick and brush and tap the guitar. I've found that eventually repeated finger brushing will leave a mark on the finish. It's like those car-wash brushes that clean the side of the car, eventually they leave marks.

I normally use the Stu/Mac thin, Mylar, clear guard. With my new X7 thin-bodied electric I have not yet installed a guard, and I have not yet seen any signs of wear. The pickup is incredibly sensitive and I've found that I do not have be aggressive to get the sound.

Speaking of which, today at the village Tree bar, we had a guest player who was really good. She saw the woody X7 and had to give it a run. That was the last I got to play it for the rest of the session--she was blown away.

She was first amazed at the lightness of the instrument. And then, balance, sensitivity, ease of play--at one point she told me that would fight me for the guitar. I'm too old for that stuff and told her she's have to seduce Alistair into making what she would want.

And yes, I believe in guards.

You can find sheets of static cling vinyl on eBay for less than the cost of a Kling-on or Taylor Clear Reusable pickguard. I make my own and have left them on my RainSong's for years with no issues. I do occasionally replace them as they get beat up over time. I am willing to bet all CF guitars are finished in a catalyzed finish that is impervious to vinyl outgassing (which is what damages nitrocellulose on a Martin classic finish). If you look carefully you can see them here:

This is what I bought, though I think I paid less per sheet for several sheets:

Cutting out a perfect soundhole with an Exacto knife is not easy either. So I cheated! The RainSong standard is 4" and I bought a 4" steel circle off of eBay. Now my pickguard soundholes come out perfectly!

Jon;

I ordered some, on Amazon. Thanks again for suggesting this, it should be a lot easier than the glue-on guards I normally use.
