Default Fender Jason Isbell Tele

I’ve never, ever been one to buy “signature” guitars…mainly because I feel like I would come off as pretentious or some kind of a hot shot. But…I find myself very attracted to the Fender Jason Isbell Signature Telecaster lately. I think it looks great, is tastefully aged…and isn’t flashy or emblazoned with Jason’s name or signature on the fretboard.

Does anyone have one of these that can tell me how you like it…how it plays, and basically the pros & cons?

Thanks!

I've never heard of Jason Isbell before but I just checked out the guitar online. Looks sweet.

I won't buy a guitar because the artist's name is on the headstock (Les Paul aside) but I will by a signature guitar if I like the guitar's specs. It sounds like that's where you're at. A lot of the playability comes from your comfort with the neck profile. 7.25" fretboard radius, which is vintage radius. If you're not able to play the Isbell guitar before buying you might be able to find another Tele/Strat with that to check out.

Buy it because you love the guitar, not the artist.

I live minutes away from the Hamilton spot. I've visited Asbury a few times and went to the Philly shop back in June. They have a very nice room there if you're ever in the area.

I’ve just bought one this week. I haven’t owned an electric in a long time. It has a great neck and the pickups are fantastic. Once I tried it with a slide I knew it was coming home. It was the only one available in Queensland.
Downsides it’s heavy. I love a custom shop 60’s Tele but can’t justify the outlay. The Isbell is a great guitar at this price point. I played it through a Blues junior in the shop and they worked well together.

Fantastic! Were you interested in the Isbell model or did you just stumble across it, play it, like it, bought it?

I liked the specifications of the guitar, Rosewood board and sunburst. They’ve only just been released in Australia. I’ve been a fan of Jason Isbell since he was in the Drive By Truckers.
I went to see this guitar, I’ve been on the look out for a good used Fender or Nash telecaster. Going to see a used amp in the morning.

I didn't know Isbell was in Drive By Truckers. The band I was in 10 years ago did a couple of their songs.

Good luck on your amp hunt tomorrow.

Big Brown just delivered one here. Will post NGD review separately. Early impression, I like it, with a few minor dislikes.
