1959 Gibson Les Paul for sale at Twelfth Fret
The holy grail of guitars is for sale at the Twelfth Fret in Toronto. I check out their site nearly daily and it popped up a couple of days ago. $190,000 US. Fixed headstock repair but all original, including the case. Beautiful. The listing even mentions the bobbin colors (neck is white, bridge is black).
I imagine they're getting some legitimate calls on this one. Your thoughts? https://www.12fret.com/instruments/1...dard-sunburst/ |

Yeah, that's a pretty one. It has faded out to look like Duane's tobacco burst. My '74 is in that color range but far more affordable...

Bob, I've always loved your '74! It's probably more playable and sounds better than the '59... but that '59 is a '59 and out of reach for all of us

I was thinking of Joe Bonamassa when I posted this. I wonder if this has caught his eye. He could buy it, play it in gigs for a year, then sell it for a profit if he wanted to.

I'm just quietly waiting for my 2020 Epiphone 1959 Les Paul to be worth as much. Shouldn't be long now.
Still waiting... Still waiting... (Looks at watch) Still waiting...

lol, I could say the same thing about my '99 Gibson Les Paul LTD ... it's not going to make me a millionaire but it does feel great in my hands, as I'm sure your Epi does. Those new ones are great.

AS I recall, mine has 250 or 300 ohm pots, which bleed off some high-end and make the guitar go dark as you back off the volume control. 500 ohm pots don't do that. They used the lower resistance pots in the period when it was made.

Les Pauls, to me, the Standards on up, are real works of art. That '59 and Bob's '74 are both gorgeous.
The price on that '59 is quite amazing. It's hard to believe that anyone would pay that much for a guitar. I realize that there are plenty of people in the world with enough money so that $190K would be no hardship. I'm perfectly happy with my Les Paul Standard from 2002. It has that same heritage cherry sunburst finish as the '59 in Dru's OP. - Glenn
