Here's some more shots from the finisher. The first clear coat is on. You might notice that the surface looks a little flatter. Still lots of reflections and some white balance issues, but I think it looks pretty good.

Thank you all for the very kind remarks. I would say to Jim that yes, you probably should drop in more often, and to Mike that yes, you probably should have another guitar built.

Hey Mike, what a great idea! You took the words right out of my mouth.
However, you should feel free to get the guitar with whatever specs suit you. But...ahem...yes, by our shop. |

That redwood top! So beautiful!

The appearance of the top has been a pleasant surprise to me. I expected the ziricote to be stunning, and it is. But the LS redwood has turned out to be far more interesting than I expected.

OK, I just got the word from Steve that the finished body is on its way back to him. The neck had been drying for a month in the Kinnaird shop, and he's got it buffed now. So for the moment, a focus on tuner buttons.
I asked if ziricote buttons were possible and Steve said "Yes". So here's shot of the ziricote blank chosen for them, largely because it's got a nice dark streak that can run through all the buttons. As you can see, the buttons turned out to be all quite similar, even with a spare. Looking good. Shouldn't be too long now. Steve tells me he shapes them by hand with a 1" belt sander. I know what would happen if I tried that! |

Cool. I want to know how that yellow pencil with the graphite lead made those white lines.

I think that's called "chatoyance". Or something like that.
