It’s good to see Yammie trying to develop a proprietary system to put their performing guitars in the same league as Takamine, Maton, and Cole Clark. I prefer their acoustic quality to the others, glad they have the pickup to match.

I liked it so much I ordered the 3 series (Chinese made with plastic pickguard). It will make a great all rounder grab and go guitar. I’ll post a full review of it once I’ve tried it out it properly.

Thanks, Aaron, it sounds like a great-sounding system!

The quality of the Chinese Yamahas is excellent! My recently acquired Yamaha LL-TA TransAcoustic is superb in craftsmanship and acoustic/amplified tone. Enjoy!

Nice review, Aaron! I'll check out your channel.

My question is: when you used EQ to boost the treble, can you tell me what frequency was boosted? I liked that sound.

I have a GE-7 and another eq pedal and just got a 5 series FG.

Thanks,
Rich

Well thanks Aaron.
As usual an unbiased review.
Hard to find these days .
Seens so many reviewers are
afraid to compromise their percs
with a bad review...To my ears
this guitar sounded best miked.
Which is usually the case. Like
all pickup systems this one is no
different in that it benefits from some
external eq. Keep em coming.

Thanks for the review Aaron. That is an extremely good sounding pickup system straight out of the box.

I know many don't care for the austere appointments, but I like the simple look - I'd rather have great electronics than bling. Not crazy about the yellowish top though.

I bought an FGX3 about 3 weeks ago. I love it - it's my new "beater" guitar. I love the feel of top - and it sounds almost exactly like the Taylor 324 I used to own. I haven't had the opportunity to plug it in yet, but after reading this thread I plan on trying it out tomorrow.

Btw, I’m thinking about removing the pickguard. I’m not a fan

Ok, after a few beers I was eyeing my FGX3 and realized the pickguard was fugly. So I removed it. Man, what kind of insipid black tar did they use to affix that thing? Lol. I’m still cleaning it up but here’s a pic IMG_1638.jpg

Nice. The guard on the FGX5 is wood simulated and it's noisy. I may remove mine...looks great (I think) and I bet the already incredible sustain is even better.

Agree. The pickup gets too much noise from the wooden pickguard.
