Mcilroy A25c with Trance Amulet Mono MVT into Radial DI into soundboard. Strumming and fingerstyle and wide dynamics.

Love it.

Easy system, sounds great, no fuss.

Our last gig was two weeks ago, but who's counting...?

Gear lineup:
  • Head: Gear One PA2400 8-ch. 2x400W/2x7-band graphic/digital EFX
  • Mains (2): Kustom KPC12 2-way
  • Monitors: None (we started playing out in the days before monitors, and while we prefer them we don't always need them)
  • Vocal mics (4): Digital Reference DRV200
  • Mic Stands: Atlas Sound, KMD, Musicians' Gear
  • Speaker Stands: Musicians' Gear
  • Cables: Cheap
  • Lead guitar: Gibson LP Studio '60s Tribute goldtop/P-90 (stock), Bugera V22 (Eminence Swamp Thang speaker, Preferred Series pre/power tubes, mild rebias), Cool Cat tremolo pedal
  • Rhythm Guitar 1: Rainsong JM3000 12-string (stock), direct-to-board
  • Rhythm Guitar 2: Taylor GS Mini-e Koa (stock), direct-to-board
  • Bass: Hofner Ignition Violin Bass (stock), Fender Rumble 40 (stock)
  • Percussion: LP, Meinl, miscellaneous no-name
Our typical backline: no tone problems, no volume problems, no balance problems, no audience coverage problems (300-seat house), no feedback problems...

Paid $349 for the entire PA system from MF, head/mains/mics/speaker stands/cables...

Inexpensive doesn't have to mean cheap - and when it comes to getting the most out of the least these old farts have been around long enough to know what they're doing...

Last Friday I had a gig in Coventry (a 3 hour train journey from home) where I was playing the support slot and I needed to travel light so I just took my Martin OM28v with a LR Baggs Anthem SL, which went straight into the small Yamaha PA.

On Sunday I played a 2 hour gig for diners at Sunday lunchtime - for this I took my 'full' rig which was two guitars (Collings OM2hT and OM2h ss vn) both with K&K Pure Minis, a Grace Felix to EQ and swap between guitars, and my AER Compact 60 for amplification and vocals (using a AKG D5 mic).

No issues with my tone at either gig - the Friday gig with the Martin was in a listening concert setting so I actually finished the show playing completely unplugged but the Anthem SL is pretty much plug and play to my ear so I knew I'd be fine anyway. The Sunday gig was my first time out with that setup and it performed really well in that situation - quite a quiet gig so no feedback issues, and the tone was pleasant for me and the listeners.

Last gig I did (last month, not last weekend; next gig is on bass...) I used my Taylor 414 with ES2 pickup through Tonebone Pz-pre into Mackie DL1608 and then house PA.

I had my Furch OM34 with K&K Pure Mini as backup. Normally I would switch between the two but it was a cramped pub gig with no space for two guitars! The Taylor is a better all-round guitar for these situations.

Default My Setup

I am playing with this:

Guitar: Goodall Grand Concert
PU: Dazzo / DPA 4061
Preamp: Headway EDB2

Always superb sound, never issues with feedback, but doesn´t play in very loud bands.

Rainsong CF dread
Fishman Matrix Infinity
Loudbox Mini Charge
Shure SM58
Boss VE2
Baggs EQ pedal
TC tuner pedal

That's really all I need for now. The tone from the Fishman, with a little EQ tweaking, is quite good through the Loudbox Mini.

I use a martin d28s 12 fret dread. with an m80
pickup . i have a pedalboard that has a felix
preamp. diamond compressor always on.
a strymon flint and an mxr delay can't remember
which one right now it's green. small mackie
board and qsc k10. played an interesting gig
where i sit in the club and play out to the street
side cafe . Here's a vid of last nights gig.
staff live streamed it on fb. sounds not so great
because they stuck the cellphone in top
of my k10..ugh.. but it gives you an idea.
I also used my m6br8 as a monitor pointed back into
the bar so those folks could hear.
there is about 35 people sitting in front of me.
Right now i am the first vid on this page.
after today you may have to scroll down
I am in a blue shirt ,brown hat ,white beard ,old fart sitting down stool. Ha!

We're in the height of gig season. Here is the run down for our full gigs: (Note, everything is battery powered and can be carried in one trip by two people.)

Emerald X20 guitar with K&K pickup > Ernie Ball VP Jr. volume pedal > Neunaber Wet Reverb pedal > Boss VE-8 Acoustic Singer pedal.

Wife's mic also into the Boss VE-8, out to Bose S1 channel 1, ToneMatch set to off.

My mic direct into S1 channel 2, TM set to Mic.

One mic stand (for me, wife holds her mic) with mobile phone holder.

One PA stand for the S1. Small, foldable guitar stand. 2 guitar cords, 2 mic cables, 2 patch cords, set list, small towel, tip jar.

Guitar gig bag and Bose S1 bag. That's it.

No issues of any kind with feedback, great tone. S1 goes directly behind and between us.

From a recent gig...

Here's a rig rundown I did awhile back for the Bose S1 backpack that shows pretty much exactly everything we take with us these days for gigs:
