Does any one build Lego type sets?

I never had any "Legos", a product made in Denmark, I would've loved them. I did have Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, Erectoset and a chemistry set though. I'm still tore up about never having a decent electric train,---maybe in my next life!

When our kids were little I spent a week putting together an airplane. I was so pleased when it was done. I put it on display to admire the success.
My boss called needing me to cover his hours. I called the baby sitter to come over so I could cover those hours as Post Master Relief. This sitter was so good... so good ... that she had disassembled the toy she thought the kids put together to have the house cleaned by the time I got home. I tried not to show my shock. I have lots of small and lots of bigger legos in containers. I have never put together another.

You demonstrated remarkable restraint. If my wife ever touched let alone deassembled anything I built ,the ensuing conversation woukd not be pleasant and she would know not to do such a thing in the future!

Well, I don't have to live with her. She was a great teenager babysitter and though I still stay on friendly terms with her I think I will always remember the chill on my arms on that hot summer day.
I am still tempted buy fireman sets each time I go down the Lego aisle.

Years back I used to do a lot of fishing for BIG striped bass during the herring runs at the Enfield rapids on the Connecticut River. My favorite fishing buddy for this was a guy whose job was to travel all over the country from the US Lego headquarters,in Enfield, building those wicked huge displays at shows and stuff. What a gig!
A few years back I saw him in a documentary on Netflix... he's still with Lego as far as I know. update: I just googled his name, he's Senior Project Manager with Lego Great guy... we had lots of fun and caught lots of big stripers back at a time when we had that big stretch of river almost to ourselves.

Oh to be able to have access to the older Legos would be great to see. I admire the giant Lego displays. What patience someone must have!

My grandsons love them, ages 10 to 16. I think they will be building them for years still as its their hobby of sorts and they have quite a collection.

The plural of Lego is Lego, there's even a Facebook page dedicated to it.
Just sayin'. Carry on. |

I have a 7 yr old son, so, yes we are overrun with LEGO.
I don't mind, I encourage it. I loved playing with them as a kid and now I get to play with them again. For his birthday he pooled some gift money and gift cards and got the biggest Jurassic World set they had, 1019 pieces. I built about 70% of it, and we both play with his sets and loose pieces often.

Not a Sopwith, but Brickmania makes many replica military sets from authentic Lego pieces, like this one:
https://www.brickmania.com/nieuport-...hter-aircraft/ Or this: https://www.brickmania.com/bruno-28-...0-railway-gun/ They get very detailed and expensive quickly!

I remember a line of models that were all metal. You put them together with screws, bolts, and pins, no glue. Think they were mostly pre-1930 American cars. The kits were fairly expensive so I think I only had one.

Ah, but the rebel in me will not think that way. There was a young neighbor who felt he was too old for Lego(s) so he sorted, bagged and semi professionally wrapped them to sell. I bought them all he was willing to sell at that time. I asked why he was selling out and not saving, but he explained with a passionate heart that he wanted to grow up to buy the local school, which was still being used, and live in it. I got the Lego(s) at what I considered a bargain price. In time, he did buy that building. I hear it is beautiful inside and he had moved his folks in with him. He also came back to our house to buy one Lego set that our son had never opened. He could have made a much better profit through e-Bay, but he told me he has yet to sell that box as it holds more memories than he imagined could.
