My '03 American Standard Strat (currently loaded with SCN pickups) has been my go to solidbody electric since I bought it from Jim Tozier in '04. For humbucker moods, it's the '06 Hamer Newport Pro with Duncan Seth Lovers.
Honorable mention goes to my '05 Taylor T5-S1. That guitar can fill a variety of roles from acoustic to electric, and has seen more time on stage than the other two combined because of its versatility.

My Gibson CS 1959 RI Les Paul. I fooloshly sold it to a buddy about 4 years ago. He tossed it in a closet and forgot about it (he has a LOT of guitars) I bought it back last year and it is heaven.

Stratocaster. I'm into instrumental surf, so my first serious guitar time started on one. Switched to bass for surf, and ended up with a P bass. Same basic feel, just bigger. They both just feel right.

1998 Fernandes Strat. The only electric I own at present.
Bought it new, and for as little of electric playing that I do these days it is more than enough. Fits me like a glove.

My go to guitar is my Fender Telecaster. (Honey blonde, black pick guard, maple fret board and a Bigsby .... love it). I also own a beautiful Stratocaster in sea foam green with a maple fret board and custom shop pickups which I need to play more often.

Epiphone Nighthawk Custom reissue. Great player, between the pickups, 5 way selector and coil tap I can draw an amazing range of tones from the guitar.
And the honey blond looks stunning! |

What is your "go to" electric?
My Classic 60s Telecaster. I bought it for a great price last year and swapped the bridge for a vintage 6-saddle. The neck needed a lot of adjusting as the previous owner had strung it up with .011s for ages. A shim and much truss rod tweaking later, it now usually hangs on the wall for when I have a few minutes to spare. It really is a nice Tele.
Go to guitar for gigs is generally the G&L ASAT because it is so easy to play and the pickups are amazing.

Last week I would have said my Stratocaster. But I'm really liking everything about the PRS I just bought.

My 2000 Gibson ES-335 is my #1.
A Fender Eric Johnson Strat w/rosewood fingerboard is my #2. My Blueridge BR163 is my "go to" acoustic.

Well.....I only have the one. Little Ibanez AM73 semi-hollow. My "jazz box".
However, like all players, GAS rears it's ugly head. That Ibanez AG95 is sure pretty..... |

Thank you for the great participation everyone! I've enjoyed reading your different takes on what your go to instruments are.
On the reverse of that has anyone had a similar situation to what I am having now? The Tele and Jackson I just can not get a comfortable playing position and can seem to do anything right with them. Admittedly they both neck dive and that makes things difficult. Am I just a terrible player that can not mold to different scale instruments well or is this more common than that? Thanks for the great posts!! Mike

I've been through many electric guitars, and finally came to the realization that I don't need whatever guitar my idols played. I just need something that works for me! I began with that thought and happily ended here:
