Les Paul because of Joe Perry, Joe Walsh, Jimmy Page, and on and on. Jimmy is probably the main reason I always wanted the cherry burst finish like mine has.

I was into VH as a kid (though I still don't play much of it!) and got into Kramers and Charvels because that's what most metal bands were playing when I was growing up. I sold most all my Charvels, but I still have two Barettas! Have a couple Boogie Bodies guitars (made by Lynn Ellsworth, the man who helped Wayne Charvel in the day and who also was an early partner with Warmoth)... Also bought a Rockman because of Tom Sholz... And who DIDN'T use and ADA MP-1 preamp?! Wish I still had mine, though shlepping rack units around these days is so 80s....

I'm sure Page influenced a lot of people to pick up the Les Paul. Those classic pics of him. He probably helped sell a few Gibson EDS-1275 doublenecks as well ... That's why I bought my Epiphone G-1275 doubleneck about 9 years ago.

Gibson Explorer--because Eddie Van Halen looked SO cool on the cover of Women and Children First.

Gibson Les Paul--because Dave Meniketti was local and he was such an amazing player and live performer.

Fender Stratocaster--because David Gilmour plays one. Period.

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

Duncan JB's in all my Les Pauls since the first prototype came out 'round '80
...I rewired them my own way.

...still blows me away!

...although I temporarily tried this Dimarzio X2N in the rear that I changed to the JB; the Dimarzio was too one dimensional and no soul just power; not for me and the nuances of a finger/plectrum right hand attack I like...like Jeff.

Noledog - I like that "Fonzie" pic! Have you ever seen Jeff Beck live?

Yes I have! In fact I stood about a few feet in front of him at a smaller venue about 2 years ago...the same stage I saw SRV who I was directly in front of as well years ago before he passrd; as well as Satch and Eric Johnson!
Jeff was awesome and so musical; catch him if you get the chance Dru and you will be hooked at how two hands can be so effectual. He was just here in St. Augustine again this time with Brian Wilson.

'94 Deering Boston tenor banjo - Chuck Romanoff (still have it)

Wow, a Hagstrom/Larry Coryell reference! Saw him several times while in college at Temple University in Philly. His "Back Together Again" album with Alphonse Mouson (sp) remains a fusion classic for me. Only guy I ever saw play a Hagstrom, think he was playing an Adamas acoustic at the time as well. Must say, he was such a great player but always came off as a bit of an *** live.

If you want to hear some great, great playing from the fusion genre check out Coryell and Al DiMeola trading licks on Lenny White's Venutian summer.

I could be wrong, but I believe that guitar is actually an Ibanez Destroyer, which he "destroyed" by cutting parts off it in typical Eddie fashion. I don't think he used it too much after doing the mods.

edit- looing at it again, it IS the Destroyer.... the turnbuckes in the lower bout give it away

Yup, was the Destroyer, but I went whole hog and bought the Gibson. To this day it is one of the best guitars I ever played. Perfect neck, great balance, and beautiful tone across both pickups.

Apparently EVH regretted chopping the Destroyer and complained that it never sounded right again. Still, it looked cool. Who put turnbuckles on their guitar back then???

In chron order by my guitars age, not influence, if that makes any sense:

1969 D28 Brazilian - Stills, country guys like Tubb, Cash, ...

1975 Guild F412 Blonde - Denver, Fogelberg

90's Tele - Burton, Don Rich, even Springsteen

00's Gretsch Westerner - Harrison, just because it's Gretsch, not the model

ES137 - Lennon, just that it's remotely similar to a sunburst Epi he used

Hofner Club Bass - Hof-Big Mac, also Raiders Phil Volk! and Will Lee.
- like Hof sound for recording, but believe that right-handed violin style should be outlawed!

08 Taylor Jumbo - *I* just like it!

Also have a Strat 12, just because I like it! Had a Ric, but just didn't feel right for me..

I remember when I wanted my first electric in the late '80s that I wanted an Explorer/Destroyer because of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, etc videos with those guitars. I couldn't get one because it was too expensive.

I grew up wanting a Tele because Springsteen and Mike Campbell played them. But I never bought one. They felt very small in my hands.

Then I wanted a Rickenbacker. But I was a poor youngster, so I bought a Peavey t-25 instead, which was a fun guitar.

I bought a Strat kit for a summer project years ago (looks cool with blue metallic paint & custom-shaped headstock). There are lots of players I like who play Strats, but no one in particular influenced the purchase. I just thought it'd be fun to put together a guitar.

Then I bought my Reverend Rocco a few years ago, partly because no one I knew of played one.

So, I'd say no to the original question.

And I also just realized I really need to buy more guitars.
