The snakewood buttons are very nice. I have some on one guitar, and have another set of snakewood buttons on reserve should another guitar come along where they’d be the best choice.

Great choice. I reckon snakewood actually looks better than koa.

As a wood for aftermarket tuner buttons, it’s definitely more practical, much less prone to getting grimy looking. The wood’s too dark and it’s own naturally occurring oil content makes it more resistant to that.

Oh, yeah, that is a GREAT-looking combination!

I know that you and I had some offline communications about this, but I don’t remember exactly what was said. I had been under the impression that you’d bought some Gotoh tuners in their translucent “Cosmo Black” finish. Are those tuners in Cosmo black or in the opaque black finish?

Because in the teeny tiny photos I can see on my teeny tiny Smartphone look like the opaque black finish.

Just curious...

Anyway, this combination of tuner finish and snakewood buttons visually reinforces both the browns and the blacks already present in the guitar.

I’ve done something very similar on Martin D-18 and Martin 00-21, both of which have Ambertone tops.

Good call. The opaque black goes with more things.

yes it does, thanks. some people say locking tuners do not go on an acoustic, only electric, that is out of place on an acoustic...serves no real purpose, .but so far i like them.....sure makes changing strings easy...both ways, Taking them off and putting them on. Also eliminates the headstock nicks and scratches you sometimes get with normal string changing when not paying attention, ...imho..And they look fine to me. I know not everyone taste. Its certainly an upgrade over the stock martin pings.

Hey, it's your guitar, put on whatever tuners you like.

Using locking tuners on an acoustic guitar can be somewhat controversial, though, as subsequent events have proven:

There was an emergency meeting of the All-Amurican He Man Acoustic Guitar Owners Club last night, and a vocal contingent wanted all of us to march on your house to confiscate your guitar.

"I'll bring the pitchforks!" said one guy. "I'll bring the torches!" said another.

Omigosh!! The Villagers Are RESTLESS!!

But a slight majority of us urged caution and restraint. After several several hours of tough, tense negotiations, we managed to hold back the hotheads (for now!) on the strict condition that you never, ever put a teeny tiny face mask on the guitar's headstock and then take a photo of it to share with the forum.

If you tempt fate again by doing that, the other moderates and I won't be able to hold back the howling mob any longer...

Hope this helps.

I decided on a different look. Sold the locking tuners and put more traditional ones on the martin 000-12e. I like this look better.

Those look great. Very dressy looking, almost like the guitar has a little tuxedo that it's wearing!

Did you hang onto the snakewood buttons for possible future use on another instrument?

Everyone claims different things about the fit of different buttons on different tuners but all I know is I bought Gotoh buttons and they fit both my martin gp-10 and my Taylor academy, which people say are not compatible with Gotoh buttons. I assume your Martin would have the same tuners as my martin did as I believe they are part of the same series.

I think that Baranik headstock looks great. The contrasting tuner buttons are the crowning touch.
