Default Upgrade from Fishman to LR Baggs Element?

Hi!

NGD yesterday, I bought a fantastic Eastman PCH1 GACE with a Fishman pickup system. Great guitar but the Fishman system sounds like I remembered it - not good.

I am thinking about a MiSi Trio Air, which is based on a LR Baggs Element.

Do you think, the Baggs Element is an upgrade from the Fishman?

If you are comparing just the Element to the Matrix then no, it's not an upgrade. Actually, I prefer the tone of the Matrix but both are going to sound like a UST. The only thing that might be different is the trio air has a mic, if I remember correctly so that will make it sound a bit more natural.

I don't know about the Trio Air but I have an Eastman which came with the Fishman Sonitone and another one with the LR Baggs Element and both pickups sound just as bad IMO. I'm going to remove them.

I have guitars with the Sonitone and Baggs Element systems. The Baggs system sounds marginally better; less quack and less metallic/brittle.

Hi,
I had the Element in my Emerald X20 and upgraded to the full anthem - big improvement.

Then I got a Tonedexter - so now I wonder if the Anthem upgrade was really necessary...

The Anthem would certainly be beneficial for an open mic plug and play situation though.

The Element sounds nice and is an improvement over the Sonitone but you might want to consider the Fishman Matrix as well. They're both the "standards" in UST technology and are both good, just a matter of taste. The MiSis are undeniably convenient but I haven't been impressed with their tone. I suspect their preamps aren't powerful enough to provide clean headroom for the Element but I am making assumptions and could be wrong.

It's more like switching brand instead of upgrading.

Most of the Sonitone pickups that I've removed were replaced with a JJB and the improvement is remarkable. You may want to consider a soundboard transducer option, they sound much better than a UST.

I went from stock Baggs Elements in two guitars to full Anthems. Now THAT was an upgrade!
