Love the fretboard--I'm down with that asymmetrical grain pattern as well!

I made a post a little while ago, but it doesn't seem to be here. Maybe I failed to hit "submit".

There's progress on the neck.

Steve recommended darkening the neck slightly around the heels and headstock, to reduce the contrast with the dark ziricote. I readily agreed.

Here's the mother of pearl side dots, chatoyance and all:

And finally, the neck with a couple of coats of pore sealant. The sealant is rubbed in rather than sprayed on, so some unevenness is visible on the headstock. Steve said not to worry. I'm not worried. Isn't it beautiful?

Yes, beautiful for sure. Steve's necks are always special to me. I think that is the perfect amount of shading as well!

Beautiful neck. What are you using for pore sealer on this beautiful neck?

Thanks for the kind word, brother.
I'm using Qualasole. I had a small amount left, begging for action.
I really like the way it fills pores as it builds a shine. It has been replaced by Qualalac, which is similar--yet different--and takes a slightly different technique. I think Qualasole was friendlier, which is probably why it was discontinued.
This rub-on finish was followed by some pre-cat lacquer by Mohawk.
Just started clear coats after air-brushing some deeper color onto the neck.
It's looking like Vance just might enjoy this.

Steve

This is just a quick update. Neck finishing is ongoing while the box is out for finishing. Steve added just a bit more shading on the neck, an effect which is subtle but effective. (Hm, an effective effect...). You can see the ziricote on the heel cap, with some clear coat on it as well. Very nice, I'd say.

Tick tock ... it is amazing how quickly the time for paint drying will pass.

Steve passed on some photos he got from the finisher. These show the guitar with all the coats of sealer, ready for clear coat.

The one where the top is facing almost straight at the viewer required a fair bit of color correction (due, I'm guessing to lighting), so it might look a little strange. And there's reflections on all of them, which is hard to avoid with a shiny surface.

The silking and the streaking in the redwood is really brought out by the finish so far. And the back is looking just like I pictured it.

Awesomeness-can't wait to see this one completed.

You must be over the moon--won't be long now!

This is a show stopper! Truly a gorgeous instrument. It is rare these days that I find myself tempted to have another guitar built, but this one...this one is doing just that.
