Have to chuckle at the " couple of weeks " A friend of mine has very oily hands and has trouble getting a set that last for several weeks even with extensive wiping during jams.. Mine on the other hand, will last a solid month or two depending..

This is an interesting topic since I also have a mahogany guitar. I find a brighter string will be the sound I like, kinda offsets the natural bassy sound just enough for me..

Since this cine year old zombie thread is alive, I'll play along:

I like Phosphor Bronze elixir nanowebs on all mahogany guitars. It adds to the warmth and enhances the low end rumble (IMO).

I'm with you Fazool. Far be it from me to let this guitar string gem fade away.

I very recently obtained a Fender PM-2 Parlor All Mahogany guitar, and I can't seem to put it down. I've never had a 12 fret, short scale guitar before, let alone one that's all mahogany. It came with Fender strings of course. They get them cheap!
On their website, Fender claims that their 80/20 bronze strings "deliver articulate sound and great feel, making them perfect for an acoustic guitar with a naturally dark tone."
Being one who always has to have more, I was contemplating changing the strings to D'Addario EXP16 Coated PB or D'Addario EJ17 PB. I've had both here for some time, waiting to be installed on my dreadnought. But I'm going to delay changing the strings on the parlor. I honestly can't imagine the sound being any better, than the sound I'm getting from the arguably "lowly Fender strings" that were supplied, installed on the guitar, straight from China. I've been consumed by a desire to change to the "perfect strings," because then obviously, no doubt, the guitar will sound better. But in reality, the guitar sounds awesome right now. It's my playing that has to get better. That's maybe why I can't put it down.

Things certainly are relative, aren't they?............Dave .....Sorry to ramble.

There is no best.

Different strings bring out different tones. Depends on what you want.

Hmmm . . . for me it depends on the particular guitar. I have one mahogany guitar where I prefer 80/20s and another where I prefer PBs. That being said, I'm not a big string experimenter. Good zombie thread resurrection, though.

My Sitka/mahogany dread likes D’Addario exp16’s.
The jury is still out on which strings my all mahogany folk size prefers, but the GHS Infinity bronze 12-54 are a strong contender.

Doubleneck, I think this question has no answer. there are so many elements of acoustics standing in importance in line ahead of the back/side wood species that I think render any definitive answer no more accurate than a random guess. It's a list of just about any characteristic I could think of or ever heard of.

Depends on the guitar. I have mahogany guitars running Pearse PBs, D'Add PBs, GHS PBs.

Can't say because I haven't tried 'em all. Here's what I do know:

I usually use D'Addario phospor/bronze. I also often use Elixir phosphor/bronze. I've also used Ernie Ball Earthwounds and liked them a lot.

I've tried Martin and Pearse strings but wasn't impressed.

For what it's worth, I use the same strings on rosewood guitars and roundneck reso. I don't think the wood or type of guitar matters.
