Default Original lyric poetry

All,

I thought it might be interesting to get folks to post original pieces of lyric poetry. This is my initial contribution. I wrote it some time ago. I mean to put it to music eventually but would like to come up with a chorus first.

Ganymede

In the methane skies of Ganymede
I stood on the shore of a frozen sea
And watched gods and ghosts in a giant’s race
Rush headlong through the vacant space
Between the true and Chosen One
And the distant flicker of the sun.

Here in the Halls of Mystery
Where silent Jupiter reigns supreme
Where Saturn revolves in her rings and sings
Of moons and dreams and silken things,
Of life and love forever young
Deep in the heart of the Chosen One.

The methane winds will still my heart
The stars will pick my bones apart
My soul will voyage through the ebon well
To lands and rivers where no sorrows dwell
And I will lift my paean song
To eternity and the Chosen One.

Pretty good!

Sounds like something Jubal Harshaw might have written.

Very nice lyrics. Come up with a suitably mystical and otherworldly melody and you’ll have a good song.

Wow, Hawk... I love it! Ganymede is an intriguing, otherworldly place. Very nice.

What a great piece and the imagery is engaging.

Certainly the challenge will be putting it to music.
Will be interested to see what you come up with musically .

Here is one of mine Turn Out in the Wind

Do you ever wonder bout the way life might have been
If you'd only taken a different turn out in the wind
We sail along never really knowing how it ends
We chart our course and hope that where were headed is where we end.

Life is an ocean full storms and tides and wind
A clear horizon can get lost when the fog rolls in
What seemed so certain soon becomes vague and frightening
We have our plans sometimes they unravel in our hands

We make our choices and wonder why
Is it just inner voices crying

A new door opens you hesitate at the threshold
Should you go on through it will you regret it when your old
But hesitation can get you lost or so were told
Ya hesitation can can get lost that's what we're told

We make our choices and wonder why
Is it just inner voices crying

Waiting through darkness wondering will the dawn change everything
Sing loud and clear boy but listen to the bells if they start to ring
Life forever changes guess it keeps it interesting

We make our choices and wonder why
It's just inner voices crying , crying , crying....... vamp and fade

Thank you guys very much for the compliments. And yes, the issue will be trying to come up with a suitable melody to go with the theme.

I hope to get back into poetry and photography in retirement. And get some 1:1 guitar lessons. Youtube videos help a lot but don't give me the feedback and individual instruction that I want.

I was hoping to see others' work as well.

Love that, Kev. Have you set it to music? What kind?

Yes two versions with two different kinds of music, one is Acoustic guitar & vocal don't currently have that on Sound Cloud but think "Riders on the storm" by the Doors type of progression in Em

And this version recorded in Nashville as a full blown demo style with a different feel . Electric and Acoustic guitar , Electric Bass , Drums , and Electric Piano
and my Vocal . In this version I did not do the last "we make our choices " in the new acoustic version I do and repeat and fade with "Cryin"

I love what you did with that. it does have a real "Riders on the Storm" kind of feel to it!
