I was hosptialized once for 3 days. Other than that episode, I can't remember not playing for longer that 24 hours since I graduated from college in the mid 1970's

My story is similar. Started playing in my teens, but was never consistent: I’d play 2-5 days a week when I felt like it. Then let the guitars sit in a closet untouched for many years while I vigorously pursued career, etc.

Started taking fingerpicking lessons in 2011, and have been pretty much a daily player/practices since then, even if it’s just for 20 minutes. I have come to appreciate the value of maintaining momentum.

Having an occasional gig and weekly jams tends to support curiosity and experimentation, as well as a wish to add a few songs to the repertoire from time to time.

At the risk of being drummed out of the AGF in disgrace, I'm just reacquainting myself with my Brook Torridge after just over five months of complete abstinence.

In my defence, I had been playing pretty much daily since the early part of 2020, but just before Christmas the muse simply upped and went.

It happens to me from time to time, and to be honest I'm already enjoying the process of re-building calluses and marvelling at the ability of muscle memory to retrieve some pretty complex (well for me at any rate) moves.

I also quite enjoy the process of relearning - and maybe finding something new in - pieces I've played for years, and which are still in there somewhere.

Am I alone in this? If so, just ignore me...

Angus
In my 50+ years of playing, I stopped for about 2 or 3 years in the early 1990s.

However long a vacation lasts. Rarely 14 days, usually a bit less.

Since 2013 I've missed a week at one stretch. In mid 2012 I ran into Guillain-Barre Syndrome and missed a few months. Prior to that I played since 2000ish without missing more than a couple days here or there.

The period 1964ish to 2000 was filled with some intense years of playing, years of not playing and casual playing.

When Mrs. EZ was diagnosed, my guitar playing didn't stop. but it did diminish, as my focus became more on her well being.
Last time I got to play for her.
