I love the sound of that guitar. To me, it's neither too thin nor harsh--not even close. But I agree, it absolutely is bright. But it seems there's a collective allergy to brighter guitars on AGF.

I think this is how a great maple guitar should sound--bright and lively: not somehow muffled to emulate a--name your favorite maker's--rosewood or mahogany guitar.

If you wanted an accent guitar to play lead lines over, say, a J-45, that maple guitar in the video would be a good candidate. I’d place it just off center with a bit of reverb and listen to it cut through. But it doesn’t strike me as a solo instrument.

…..keep in mind that guitar is fresh out of the shop and has an adi top….it’s gonna settle in and fwiw I think Matt showcases it’s solo capabilities just fine….as it happens I have a maple K-35 currently being built but Kevin and I decided on a torrefied Sitka top and a 12 fret mahogany neck to keep it on the warmer side….

…..the quick response and decay…and relative lack of overtones that maple exhibits does lend itself to ensemble playing…but it’s also a sound I prefer for solo playing after many years of playing big rich sounding guitars…..mostly rosewood dreadnoughts….I still have one (SC Tony Rice)…but I don’t find myself reaching for it very often these days….will probably let it go soon…
