Spruce/maple dreads
Any recommendations for spruce/maple dreadnoughts with 1 3/4 nut? Are there any Martin spruce/maple dreads? Thanks!

I don’t know of a standard Martin with Maple.
Taylor has a 610 with a Maple b/s and 1 3/4 nut. |

I don't think I could go with maple -- too bright. I'm gonna stop now.

Maybe it’s the microphone or the mic set-up (or my ears), but when he strums the strings with his fingernails (e.g., beginning around 2 minutes in), it sounds pretty bright/harsh.
I agree that not all guitars with maple back and sides aren’t “too bright.” I have a Taylor 614ce that isn’t any brighter than my Martins. |

The maple jumbo still exists for a reason. It's an interesting tone.

I've been listening to the Gibson Dove on Youtube. I like it, but I think not as much as a Martin. Been trying to find some comparison videos but haven't yet. I was just curious to see the differences.

If I hadn't spent so much on my ambertone HD-28, I might have tried to get a used Dove. I like that dove logo on the guitar, and the guitar sounds pretty good. The finish is nice, too.

Which is brighter, maple or walnut?

Isn't the maple issue that it colors the sound less than pretty much all other back and side woods? Its response is flat across the range...imo.
Btw, what does pau ferro sound like in a body? I would guess a lot like maple. |

Your impression of maple is about like mine. I think the Gibson Dove is the best looking guitar I've ever seen, but I like the sound of the Hummingbird a little better -- and I'm no fan of mahogany. I think any Martin I've heard sounds better than a Hummingbird. |

Matt's great to listen to, his tracksuit is awesome too, but I'm sorry, that's not a good sounding guitar in my opinion. Too bright, too thin, too harsh.
