The Sound of Silence...
A song for the current times?... For some mysterious reason, I had never heard this cover till a few days ago. I have known, and played, the original many many times but this live version hit me like a sledge hammer and literally brought me to tears (a rarity for me). Surely, one of the best covers of any song at any time. Incredibly powerful!
FYI from wiki: "Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7RVw3I8eg live version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg...&start_radio=1 Band's official video Last edited by Daniel Grenier; 06-07-2020 at 07:05 AM. |

Regardless of whether you like Disturbed's body of work, I agree this is one of the greatest interpretations of a song -ever. And, it indeed moves me to tears, as well.
Paul Simon has been quoted as saying he believes it is a superior tribute to their original. I can listen to it many times over and hear something new each time. Such is the power of music . . . Last edited by Rixtoy; 06-07-2020 at 08:51 AM. |

I also like both of those versions and I found this one to learn for solo fingerstyle that I quite liked and am working on now https://youtu.be/VBP0ZUxk7BA

I guess that I'm in the minority on this one... I found the "new" version to be extremely ponderous, bombastic and heavy-handed, much preferring the original treatment, both for "sweetness" and effectiveness of delivering the lyric and sentiment of the song.
Just because you have a good point doesn't mean that folks need to be beaten over the head with it...

I'm missing the awesomeness somehow. It sounds to me like any 'anthemic' classic song where people have tried to make it MOAR ANTHEMIC by adding bombastic string sections.
The singer's delivery ruined it for me.

We are all certainly different . I found the voice the most compelling aspect and overall a great live performance I give it

Great set of pipes, but a little bit of that goes a long way for me.
The original has held up for over 5 decades. I remember signing it in middle school choir when it was still recent. We had hip young music teachers--California Dreamin', Where is Love, Color My World, etc. And our high school marching band played the Budweiser song-- "When You Say Budweiser, You've Said It All." Great effort by this fellow, but not my cup of chowder.

David Draiman has brilliant voice! Really nailed it here. Now we've just gotta get Paul Simon to do a Disturbed cover. haha
