Default Bridge pins : Faux tortoise?

Furch Faux tortoise? Felt and looked like polished acrylic with abalone-like dots. Of course I'm wondering if I should change them out or just leave them alone. They look ok, but I'm used to seeing dark wood with abalone dots there.

What ever happened to our local bridge pin expert? I haven't seen any postings from V---- in a while. I forget the member's forum name.

Hope he's OK.

I was only thinking about Vindibona1 yesterday, and wondering what has happened to him - he was an interesting guy and, although I didn’t always agree with him, I had a couple of very friendly and absorbing PM conversations with him. I hope he’s OK.

And sorry, but I can’t offer anything useful in response to the OP’s question..

Hey TBman,
I am also into Bridge Pins, I have more than doubled my collection since this photograph was taken. LOL...
I would like to Highly recommend CustomInlay.com.
I have bought from most everybody, and in my opinion there is no finer bridge pin maker than Bryan at CustomInlay. Beautifully turned. He will custom make every bridge pin size, and put up to a 4mm abalone Dot.
He sells, Bone, Persimmon and ebony bridge pins.

Vindibona1 hasn't posted since early December. Perhaps it's time for a PM.

Ahhh...must be a Furch Yellow. You'll get more sustain, snap and string separation from bone pins. I suspect more warmth from ebony pins. The difference is subtle but definitely noticeable. I just replaced my Furch's stock Tusq saddle with bone to follow the bone pins I added. It added yet a bit more as described above.

Have fun experimenting. LMI bone pins are a nice no-frill option. 3 degree slotted for the Furch.
