GP28e; right out of the box it's no comparison to the J-40 that I've been playing steadily for the past couple of days, but it's nice. It sounds wonderful, and it has a very good pick-up

More later, got to go play
Beautiful! Enjoy and put lots of miles on your new gear.

OK, after playing for 2 hrs, it's a winner. It took about an hour to ''wake up'', but after I retuned it the second time it was just a blast. It's a joy to play. I have to check the nut slots, but the string height and neck relief are right on. The Martin strings loosened up some but still feel stiff and I'll bet a string change will do it some good.

The sound doesn't have the depth or thickness of the J-40 but it's close. It also has the quickness you get in an OM. Notes just fly off of the soundboard. It's a perfect compromise between a dread and an OM and it will clean house on any 0000.

I did play a few songs plugged in and I'm very happy with the Fishman Aura VT Advance pick-up. Whichever way I adjusted it, it sounds great.

I can't wait to play it switching between the J-40, the OM-18 and even my Road Series GPC with the JJB pickup plugged in. It's all going to be a lot of fun!

Played it for an hour and a half this morning (before my run). Today it took about 45 minutes to wake up. It's a wonderful guitar. It's got a lot of snap like an OM and just enough of the big Martin sound.

Here's a graphic showing the difference in the shape from a J-40;

But the depth is 4 5/8 vs 4 7/8.

I've got to keep playing it hard and get it back in shape. It's been sitting around too long!

Well, the guitar woke up and the strings settled in. Forth time playing this morning it had that big, thick, round, deep Martin ton that we all love right off the bat. I love this guitr!

I played it plugged in yesterday, comparing it to my Road Series with a JJB. The JJB sound really good, but the Fishman Matrix Aura VT Enhance is a whole other level. It should be, it's an expensive PU vs a $50 one.

Did I say that I love this guitar?

@lowrider , congrats on the beautiful addition! Waiting for the FedEx truck from Montgomery is painful indeed! What's worse is that I'm always late in the afternoon on my driver's route.

Thanks guys, yes I'm at the end of the Fedex line also. He got here abot an hour earlier than I was expecting. The New Guitar Spirits must have been shining on me that day!

I'm going to play it back to back with the J-40 later. should be interesting!

Wow, I just heard back from Martin customer service. There were only 57 of these made between 2016 and 2017.

It's funny that now that it's canceled, both Music Zoo and CME are offering Custom Shop GP's with no cut-away for sale.

It's a classic!

Lol, why should deceased artists' work get all the attention?

I spent 2 hours playing back to back to back; same songs, same licks, over and over. My conclusion is that if I was on stage and you were in the audience, yo couldn't tell one from the other. The J-40 has more bass and it's fuller, as it should, it's 1/4 inch deeper, but the GP28 is right there, and it's somehow clearer. Notes on the middle and treble strings are about the same. It's the bass strings that set the J-40 at a higher level.

It was fun taking a deep dive comparing these two. Sometimes I liked the J-40 better, sometimes the GP28. Kind of like how I sometimes like my J-17 WS better. It will be fun to compare the GP28 to the J-17 Whiskey Sunset

Here's another shot of the boys;
