Looking to buy a taser for my daughter - any suggestions?
My daughter's job has her downtown late a few nights a week and I'm thinking about getting her a taser to carry.
Any suggestions about make/model? I read that battery drainage can be an issue. |

Should you check your local and state laws on permit required to carry? Sad to hear about your daughters situation. Good luck.

Any reason you're only interested in a "taser" and not another personal defense tool?
It's kind of a bummer a taser like the one above costs $70 per shot, because waiting to be attacked to fire it for the first time is not a good idea. If you're only interested in the "less lethal" solutions, this pepper spray device is a good choice, and no reliance on batteries. At $37 and being disposable, it'll cost $16.50 per shot to practice with. https://www.amazon.com/Kimber-Pepper...ds=taser+pulse Last edited by HodgdonExtreme; 04-27-2018 at 06:30 PM. |

I was going to suggest waiting until she is at least 5 years old...

Not to sound like a wet blanket here, but I'd also suggest she carry pepper spray, learn to be vigilant when she's at risk and take a self defense course where a weapon is a last resort as opposed to being a "deterrent" which leads to a false sense of security.
I'd also suggest she find another job. Having a lower quality of life isn't nearly as bad as having no life at all.

The UDAP company produces a variety of personal protection devices. I have carried one of their bear spray products for twenty years when hiking, having had occasion to use it twice with impressive results. Their website contains helpful info regarding the various products and their use.

I have a guard dog security electro lite. Never used it on anyone but seems legit. Also bought a pepper pray from that same brand. Wife drives for Uber and Lyft from time to time and well I rather have her have something to defend herself.

Ypu. Nothing to add on the tasers but something on general personal security: teach your daughter to buck the trend. I work adjacent to a university campus and walk there every day. I'd say 95% of the young ladies walk either with ear buds in or with the phone against their head, and in both cases their eyes are inevitably down, looking at the sidewalk. Teach your young lady to walk with a purpose, with ear buds OUT, phone in purse, head on a swivel, and eyes alert and looking for trouble and the best route. If she carries her taser, she should make it available and within reach before venturing out. Studies show that predators prefer unaware victims - it gives them the advantage of surprise and allows them to plan.

If you are considering a taser, be willing to purchase several extra cartridges for training, also be aware that sometimes the darts do not "stick" into the skin to make a proper circuit.
I would recommend a handgun along with proper training and licensing. My daughter attends college and I purchased her pepper spray in gel form. https://www.amazon.com/SABRE-Red-Pep...BCK4VVH621GEC4

Neil is right
With a Tazer , depending which kind, you have to pretty close . The only thing worth it's weight is FOX 5.3 small 2oz spray , $20 Best there is , Quick spray ( Spray type not Stream) to eye area - and whoever , will be instantly done for hours , bar any legal perimeters . Worst stuff there is .... in the spray Dept . Watch Y/T if you dont believe . ( 2-3 Year expiry w/ Manu Date Printed on bottle )
