My offer to translate it is coming back to bite me. I could translate the sense of the lyrics, but that would probably not be singable. Or, I could try to write some singable lyrics to fit the music, but they would not be the same.

I know of several songs in Spanish and Portuguese which are translated to very different meanings in English - in some cases wildly different meanings. As I tackle Pancho and Lefty I am discovering why that’s so.

Listening to mexican radio for the last 3 decades, one often hears especially the 50's and 60's early rock n roll songs done in spanish. The lyrics are never even close. I'm fluent....and the translation provided in the first couple of posts looked pretty decent to me. One thing about translating poems or lyrics from english to spanish is that in spanish, most words end in vowels, which makes rhyming easy. What I'd recommend, which would benefit the intended beneficiario....is teach him the song as it was written in english.

Some funny comments here from Jackson Browne on the Spanish translation of Take it Easy.

Hi,I've done this for many years, as I simply cannot get on with really thin strings so use 54/30-12/12 and tuning down a) reduces the tension a little, and b) as I play mostly six string but when (I used to) gig (before the YNW!) The lower tuning on the 12 string gave it a more distinctive sound that my sixes.

Even with Ej37s or M190s the octave G is still a tiny .010, and so sometimes I replace it with a 12.

Mostly I used them for blues in D, B or F when Mando Bob would play his nationals, but he;'s decided he doesn't play guitar any more and so I don't get the chance to play my 12s unless I play solo, which ...I hope to do soon!

I did run across this version by Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan that has Spanish sub titles. I’m just assuming it’s accurate.

My band plays this and I'm at the point of having a mental breakdown if I have to do it one more freaking time!

well it takes artistic liberties but looks like it was translated by someone fluent, and maybe from someone who actually sung it. For example 'horse as fast as polished steel' turns into fast as a bullet...but it gets the point across. The whole exercise would be how it sounded...not how it's translated. I've deep searched on google mexico...found a version in portuguese ....which is similar enough that most mexicans get alot of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Yo4dNFw-I
and heres a swedish version too....

but....I give up. Can't find a spanish version. Must have something to do with copyrights....mexicos not big on copyrighting jeje
