Ok, I guess it's vanilla. My girlfriend said the case and guitar have a pleasant smell and she's not overly fond of fragrances. I suppose I'll still air the case outside come spring time.

So don't buy TKL. Buy a proper, odour-free, case like Hiscox

For the last twenty years I thought the Taylor case was helping maintain the new wood smell. After all these posts I have realized it was probably a glue/vanilla smell. I love it, but does this mean I have been sniffing glue for all these years 🤪

In case you've not read this thread carefully... this was a USED guitar in a USED case. Sounds like prior owner issues which are clearly not TKL's fault ESPECIALLY when you read the other comments posting no smell problems. And a Hiscox would be great but the price differential needs to be considered as well. Plus the fact that the guitar came with the case.

This is a bit of a zombie thread, and I'm sure we have been here before.

All of my Collings guitars live in Collings supplied TKL cases. The newer ones smell of vanilla which I find delightful.

Over the years, the polish that I use on my guitars has slowly replaced it, but it is similarly attractive.

If the OP doesn't care for the vanilla aroma, I'm sorry for him, but I think he'll find that he is in the minority.

A forever ongoing debate in the Gibby electric guitar world. Is it the case or the guitar finish???.... lol.

I still have that smell from a few of my older SG/cases. I love that new Gibson vanilla smell. I try and preserve it

Has anyone ever opened a tub of vanilla ice-cream and found it smelled like guitar case?

My new TKL case smells like vanilla too, pleasant and not overwhelming.
