Martin 000-18GE 1937 inbound
Just submitted payment to Reverb for a 2011 000-18 Golden Era 1937. It has a couple of finish issues, but I got a pretty good deal on it.
Had been shopping for a mahogany OM, but the price was right on this. And I have a feeling I'll hardly miss that extra 1/2" of scale length, especially with the GE bracing. Hopefully I'll get on well enough with the mod-V neck. Have played a few, but never for very long. Fingers crossed. Pics when it gets here.

I've yet to find any that sound bad, but my preferred strings are the Martin Retros!

I have a 2011 000-18GE as well, more accurately a custom shop ambertone style 18 with the same specs. I string it with 12-53 80/20 bronze, either D'Addario or John Pearse typically.
It has a lot of headroom, and seems a bit stiffer than your average short scale Martin. I attribute those qualities to the Adi top, which I feel is still breaking in 8+ years later. Good luck, hope you like...

I went through a exhaustive string journey on mine and found that the D'Addario EJ16 Light 12-53 or Curt Mangan Fusion Matched 80/20 Bronze Medium/Light 12-54 work the best. Try the Mangan's for a touch more brightness/clarity and bottom end. The coated EXP version or the new XT's is a great substitute for the EJ16's.

Congrats! Probably the best used Martin offering in the mid $2k range IMHO.
I've owned a bunch of them and all were at least very good. A couple were just excellent. Strangely, some worked well with bronze strings, others with Retros. It's a cheap experiment to figure out what yours will prefer. Enjoy.

Hey warfrat,
congrats on your 000-18GE. I recall reading your thread about looking for a Mahogany OM, leaning toward the long scale for the extra “punch”. A few years ago, I had an OM-18GE, and my 000-18GE simultaneously. The OM and the 000 were pretty much identical guitars except for scale length. And the tone and attack were also much more alike than I expected. Ultimately, I sold the OM to a friend who lusted after it, keeping the 000. I will be very interested to hear your assessment of your inbound GE, with its Adirondack top and Golden Era bracing. Due to those attributes, the headroom on these 000-18GE models is surprising. Your views are anticipated. I trust you will be pleased.

If I had to pare down my collection to two guitars, I'd keep the 000-18GE (I have the 12 fret version) and the OM-18GE. If one, I'd keep the 000-18GE. It's the guitar I've had longer than any others...

The newest Martin to join the party showed up today.
At some point the bridge was loose and had to be reglued, in the process some of the finish with aging toner was scraped or sanded off. From what I was told, that guitar tech then decided to "degloss" the whole top, so that one spot "wouldn't stand out so much." And indeed, it has a satin finish on the top now. I knew this in advance. What I didn't know was that there are also a bunch of finish cracks. Though, looking back at the listing, I can see them, if somewhat blurily. I'm a bit annoyed that the weren't explicitly mentioned, but I'm not too terribly bothered by this, as I sort of understood the top finish to be basically shot, and I still think I got a fair price. The good news is that the neck is straight, plenty of saddle left, frets are good, and that the weak sounding low E came to life when I snugged the ball end up to the bridge plate. Strings are a bit dead, but I'll put on some new ones tomorrow and spend some time with it.

I think I saw that one on reverb. Looks to be a good deal if you don't mind the cosmetic issues.
