Default Cuki IR generator Open source App

Hi,

I had some free time so I made a "light" version of my algorithm so it can work on GNU OCTAVE similarly to Jon's algorithm.

There are few advantages:
* It has a graphic interface
* You can record your guitar pickup and mic with it (no DAW or recording software required)
* It is totally free & open source
* It enables you to listen and compare the mic, pickup and IR convolved pickup tone so you can play with the mic position to fine tune your IR.
* It allows you to save different types of IR including Jon's algorithm generated IR.

Link to IR generator page

All you need is:
* A computer (Mac or PC)
* A 2-channel audio interface
* A microphone
* An acoustic guitar with an onboard pickup
* 2 cables (one for the mic, one for the guitar)
* GNU Octave (free) installed on your computer. (see the previous link and download the instructions to install)

I hope you like it!

Cheers,
Cuki

Fantastic Cuki!

I have played around with Jon's IR process a little bit, and wanted to try yours as well. Will download immediately!

Hi Cuki

That looks pretty wonderful, I can see it getting plenty of use, thanks for your work.

I'm having some trouble getting the GUI to display on my laptop. It opens up usually with the bottom half of the panel visible and with a bit of pushing and pulling of the edges I can get up as far as step 2 but can't get beyond. I'm sure I can make that work but just thought I'd pass that on.

Free time well spent. Live acoustic music will (eventually) return sounding better thanks to yourself and JF45.

I was Cuki (Kien's) Alpha tester and it is really solid and has a great feature where you can inside the app listen to 10 seconds of the mic, pickup, and IR (pickup convolved with the IR). It plays the interval between 10 and 20 seconds of your recording for this quick demo. IMO strumming really brings out the IR advantage and maybe you should plan to strum for that portion of the recording.

Hi Shufflebeat,

I will check that. I had similar problem with the imac in the begining. On Windows I did not have any problem.
What computer and OS do you use? You can pm me those details.

Cheers,
Cuki

Hi ShuffleBeat

Try download the "Cuki_IR_gen1o.m" version (Right clic and save the target as...)
https://github.com/kienphanhuy/Cuki-IR-generator

The buttons should shrink with the window now. I guess you are using a Macbook air or something like that.

Cheers,
Cuki

That would be nice. No, just a little old W10 PC laptop of no particular pedigree.

Jon tested the "o" version (now on the website) and checked that the window now scales correctly. If you miss one button, just increase the window size.

Cheers,
Cuki

I went live today (the video is on my YouTube channel if you would like to check it out) to try this and initial impressions are very positive. Great job Cuki. Thank you for helping the acoustic community!

Aaron - you did a great job reviewing Cuki's IR generator! I haven't used his self-serve program, but I have been using one that he made for me a couple of months ago and it is amazing. I saw where you used the Slate mic in your video and liked the results. I used a 20 year old $50 Peavey dynamic mic for the recordings that I sent to Cuki and I am very happy with the results.

BTW - I enjoyed your live stream Sunday afternoon. It definitely lifted my spirits! You need one of those backgrounds that make it look like you are playing on some island in the Caribbean, LOL!
