For years I've felt a deep personal calling to do something about the plight of the world’s sea turtles, specifically the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, which has been the sole source of “tortoise shell picks” for hundreds of years. The Hawksbill, even though protected by CITES, has been slaughtered and poached to the brink of extinction. Of the seven species of sea turtles existing in the world today, it is the most endangered.

We wanted to do something about it.

Beginning November 1st Charmed Life Picks began selling the industry's first sea turtle preservation guitar pick, a fundraising model designed to raise money for the protection of sea turtle habitat. The model pictured above, the stf-1, is the first offering in this series. It is a standard 351 teardrop shape at 1.0 mm, in DuPont Vespel polyimide, a legendary picking material in the picking industry. (Speed bevels are available upon request, for free.) The stf-1.0 will sell for $50, with $10 from every sale being donated directly to sea turtle preservation organizations (a full list to follow). That price also includes free shipping to your door.

In addition to supporting our efforts, your name will be posted on our website (unless you prefer to be anonymous) as a donor to our project.

BTW, folks, we're happy to offer free speed beveling on this pick. Just ask. The reason I'm not showing it is the speed bevel makes the turtle look off-center when photographing.

Thanks to both of you, Zissou and Jayne. You are two of my longest-running buddies here on AGF, ever since I joined in 2014.

Jayne, actually that's a prototype photo. The finished product will look even cooler. You know what a stickler I am. The laser-engraving image is just slightly off in a few spots. For instance, if you look at the outside edge of the front left flipper, you can see a little thinness there. Because of that, the paint won't go all the way down. Also, on the very tip of the lower right flipper -- same issue. Anyway, I've gotten pretty good with Photoshop now, so I'll clean it up and get it right. Thanks again.

BTW, after we launch this model, we'll be putting out the same pick for retailers. If we do it at $50, we can only afford to include a $5.00 donation at this point, so we're chewing on other pricing options, etc.

On our site we'll have a full list of customers listed who've have donated, and we'll also have a list of all retailers supporting the program. I wish we had the resources to set up a 503C for this effort, but it's just too steep right now for us to incorporate that at present. Talk Soon!
