I've grown icicles in my beard and moustache before on the ski slope chairlift. They thaw.

My brother had a beard for twenty years and then decided to shave it off one morning. His wife had never seen him without it. She told him he was ugly and to grow it back. That was harsh.

I've never had a beard in 71 years.
Apparently they make you look older, so people think I'm still in my late 60s. ![]() |

The answer would be from being born but shaving it off has contributed to 33 years with my wife. Beyond my wife thinking they only look good on some people, she's grossed/wigged out by the hygiene aspects, skin oil, and especially people who run their fingers through their beard and then elsewhere.
The family loves this 1977 pic. I started to grow a beard when my childhood pal and I hitchhiked from upper midwest to the west for adventure and seeing the Grateful Dead. ![]()

I have a friend whose wife said the same thing about his baseball cap. Now he doesn't where one any longer.

The “lemming mentality” hmmm, I don’t applaud nor agree with that comment. The same could be said about your naked face by the National Beard Growers of America. ![]()

The recent beard growing deal is a world wide fad. Hair styles change with the generations. The 70s mullet look etc.The 60s clean look etc. It is a fad and I'm not going to conform to it no matter what the beard growers association thinks of me. |

Had a beard for about a year back in the early 80's.
Looked like a caveman. Shaved it off, never went back. |

Have had a beard for almost all of the last 40 years. Prior to that I often had long sideburns and/or a moustache. Only had a moustache on my wedding day in '84, not sure why I wasn't bearded. Since then I've shaved clean twice, one summer around '90 on a whim, and once about nine years ago right before going under the knife for cancer surgery...I looked so much like my father that it totally freaked out the whole family. I only trim the thing maybe once a month at the most, but often let it go for several months. As far as I know my wife likes it, she's never said otherwise.
Why a beard? Because it's time consuming to shave, I'm so far sighted it's difficult, I save on products, but primarily I like the look. Last edited by Mooh; 10-17-2022 at 06:07 AM. |

Anyone who has had a beard and shaved it off will be surprised at just how much of the face a beard can conceal. When I shaved my other one off at age 27, I stood before the the mirror in amaze as I gradually saw my face reappear before me like some old friend. Perhaps the fact that a beard obscures the mouth area explains it: maybe a lot of who we are is communicated by the movement of our mouths. Not sure.
