I think the demo guy in that video said the bridgeplate picks up the guitar's lower frequencies better than the mic does, so I'd wager that it's not designed to put its best foot forward at 100% (kinda) mic.

I'll probably try this if there's enough room inside my gigging Martin Road Series for the controls setup. I think it's larger than the Sonitone's.

I don’t honestly believe real world users will be opting for full mic anyway. The best sound is likely some degree of blending the mic with the soundboard transducer pickups.

I have a HiFI in a Collings D1 Traditional dread. I always thought it was great but would be better if I could blend in just enough Mic to add some
Air and nuanced detail that mics are known to produce.

Somehow i find this a better review. It sounds also better to my ear.
Cool. But to my ears the 50-50 mix was still too brittle/quackie. The 100% Mic was better, but somewhat boxy. I'd want to hear 25-75 HiFI to Mic.

I'd like to hear 75% HiFi to 25% Mic also. That would be my personal starting point after hearing 50% blend.

Side note: Is this the same guitar that was used in the first demo we heard with the flat picking runs?

I stumbled upon something really interesting.

I asked a bit around and had some small instagram contact with Nick Huddleston. He just started to use the HIFI duet in his Collings CJ45AT (which I also required last week, happy!)

He just recorded two live songs with Carly Pearce. One song he uses the Hifi duet and the other one the Anthem It's just the pickup into a Rupert Neve Designs RNDI and then straight to the mixing console. It is a nice comparison. And yes, this is mixed and made as nice as possible but clearly the guitar sound comes all through the pick up.

Hifi Duet

Here you clearly can hear to mid frequencies that we also hear accentuated in the demo from Trey and from Premier Guitar. But what I really like in comparison to the Anthem is the lows, they are rounder and les tight and direct sounding.

Anthem

Here I clearly here the low strings with the piezo, (as even with the blend control full on the mic the piezo is used for the low strings) It sounds really good but you have that more tight piezo sound on the low strings, which I hope to get rid of when I can start using the duet.

That’s a neat comparison. It’s hard to judge too much as the playing styles are drastically different and it sounds like a bunch of post mixing has gone on but the Duet sounds great.

Do you know if the Silo Mic is passive, and just need a preamp, or is like phantom powered? It looks like a normal mono jack

@woland:

As far as I know is the signal coming out passive because there is a preamp onboard of the guitar in the sound hole. This preamp runs on a 9v battery.

as you can see here:

Hard to really tell anything from these highly produced videos and all the other instruments and vocals mixed in.

New review posted today by Peghead Nation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5gVI8s2NkQ

He does post some direct sound for a few seconds during the video, but most of this sounds like a mix of unplugged room sound from his mic mixed in. When playing through the amp, I didn't hear much difference between "all mic" versus "all pickup", which was odd. When going direct, you could hear a difference, with the mic sounding more “hollow” and airy.
Its sounds OK, but nothing that made me go "wow".

I saw it, have to say it was not very well played, if the demo person doenst have the touch then it doenst work for me. He was very knowledgeble though.

Yes that guy always does the reviews, but he plays so lightly and mostly finger picks.
