Default Neumann KMS 105 or Shure KSM9?

They are both in the same price range $699
Which one do you prefer?
I do mostly live and home recording for fun

I use the Neumann live and it has never let me down. It's a great sounding mic. I do not use it for recording, however. Haven't tried the KSM9...

Neumann all the way. Best live mic I've ever owned! Had one stolen and bought a new one right away.

And if you get the chance, try the AE5400 from AT. This is one of those mics that sneaked out and never got much attention. It uses a version of the AT4050 capsule. I compared the AE5400 and KMS 105 and found them both excellent, but the LF cut of the AE5400 lets you work the mic "lips on" without getting woofy. If you get too close to the KMS 105, it gets woofy unless you have a really thin voice.

Ty Ford
