Default New to me 1994 PRS Custom 22

I'm not usually a PRS fan, but a Gear Page forum member offered me a very near mint 1994 Custom 22 in trade for my Dean guitar that I was having trouble selling.

The guitar is all original, and it's a 10 top, so the wood has some really nice flame, and a great burst to show it off. It's also pretty light (high 8lb range). Not sure about the 5 way switch, as it's confusing, If I keep it, I'll rewire it with a three way switch, and a push pull tone pot to keep the split coil options. It has the wide fat neck profile, jumbo frets, and beautiful rosewood fretboard.

Congrats

That is a beauty, looks mint!! I love a good dark cherry burst with gold hardware.

You must have had a pretty nice Dean guitar to be able to pull off that trade!

Just Beautiful like most PRS's . But I am curious about "the 5 way switch" I assume that must be the single rotary by the bridge ? is it push pull also, like coil split or something ?

Q: I understand the PRS pickup switching that has the 3-way toggle switch, but what exactly do the five positions on the rotary switch offer in terms of pickup combinations and voicings?

A: On all PRS CE Bolt-On, Standard, and Custom models, there is a 5-way rotary hybrid pickup switching system. This system is not offered on the company’s Singlecut or McCarty models. Here is the breakout: (Note: The switch position numbers below refer to the number displayed on the knob as the rotary switch is turned; this isn’t a 10-position switch…)

Position 10: Humbucking treble (bridge) pickup alone
Position 9: Outside coils of both pickups in parallel for what PRS calls a “deep and clear” sound
Position 8: Series single coils – PRS describes this as a “warm version of the classic in-between the bridge and middle pickups”
Position 7: Parallel single coils – Here PRS describes the sound as a “crisp version of the in-between the treble and middle pickups”
Position 6: Humbucking bass (neck) pickup alone
As you can see, this switching and pickup configuration offers a number of interesting and “non-standard” voicing

Wondering where did you get the information (in bold ) ? My 2016 CE 24 bolt on, as well as what PRS is currently showing on their web site, for the 2020 CE 24. Do not have a 5 way rotary ...They have a 3 way toggle switch, then regular volume and tone rotary knobs, with the tone knob being a push/pull coil tap. ?????

From PRS web site CE24 page "
"the CE 24 features PRS 85/15 pickups, which Paul designed to have remarkable clarity as well as extended high and low end. The electronics consist of a volume and push/pull tone control with 3-way toggle switch for a total of six classic sounds."

That's a good prospective plan. I went through 2 of the 5 ways on my C24 from 2002 and finally had enough of them breaking and did just that....the 3 way made life much easier.
