I was visualizing an Emerald with a double set of robot tuners.

David;

You could have said that in a nicer way: It could be "the best case of neck dive ever." See how much more positive that sounds? Just saying..............

I'm sorry. I'm working on my sensitivity.

How about "Why would you strap 2 pounds of electro-mechanical junk that no-one's ever had a good word to say about to the headstock of the world's most beautiful 12-string acoustic?"

How's that?

This guitar inspired me. I think I’m ready to order exactly this in a 6 string. Anything you’d do differently now?

Not really. I love the satin finish, don't need/want built-in electronics, and their soft cases are very nice and all the protection I'd ever need. My next Emerald in 12 months will probably be a six-string to match the 12 string. Fast forward to 2:12 in the shipping video below...

That playing demo sounded nice. I'd love to play one of those and the X30.

Just ordered a black satin 6 string, no electronics. Would make a great twin but of course it’s the new design. Emerald honored a $300 quote from last month but new pricing for satin is $400. I’d be curious to know what drives that price, makes me think a consistent satin is more labor intensive to achieve. Thanks for the inspiration.

My pleasure. I may do the same and get a satin black X20 at the end of the year. Hope you enjoy yours, but if not, you know where to find me....

The thing I like about the satin finish is that it doesn't show fingerprints like the gloss finish as well as having a very cool "stealth" look to quote Alistair from the shipping video. Yes there's an uncharge for satin, but that was balanced out by not getting electronics or a Hiscox case. All in all I couldn't be happier with it...
Nice! Congratulations.

I've seen an Emerald with a very heavy satin finish - almost like orange peal. Does the satin finish on yours feel any different than typically seen on wood guitars? Is the satin upgrade a binary choice - yes/no - or are their variations to specify? I'd like the "lightest" finish possible I guess.

Thanks

The orange peel type finish is their Crystal Ice, used on the sides and back; I'm not aware of any example of that used on the top. I am a fan of the Crystal Ice finish; I ordered that on the sides and back of the X10. It adds a contrast interest with the glossy top. The satin finish is something relatively new for Emerald, and not the same as the Crystal Ice finish.
