And why not?!

Congratulations Ian, that's great set and I look forward to the results. I have a feeling I know who the luthier charge of the lot will be...

All the best

Wow! I've not heard of 'The Tree' before. It sounds almost mythical like Excalibur or The Golden Fleece.

Wow, that’s a few mortgage payments right there, never mind the build. Absolutely gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe it. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Congratulations!

Do you have a design in mind? Are you planning to use it on the top to show it off?

It will be a build by Tom Sands, a former apprentice of Ervin Somogyi. Tom's guitars are exceptional in every department and, since he is based here in the UK, I do not get clobbered with import taxes, which helps to keep the price down. Obviously, a set like this is bonkers expensive but it also represents a reasonable investment as wood of this quality and rarity is becoming increasingly hard to source.

This will be the third build that Tom gets to do with wood from "The Tree" which suits me just fine, as by then he'll have a better idea of exactly what to do with this set.

Cheers,

Ian

Color balance must be off on my monitor, looked like very expensive Bubinga to me as well.

It's not your monitor; it's the white balance in the photos: they're a little too red.
But regardless, that sausage quilt and tortoise veining is unmistakable. That's Honduran Mahogany from "The Tree," and what looks like a flitch-matched set to boot. It's not easy to find that anymore! I wonder if Tom was gifted (or purchased) some from Ervin.
